MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents and Caregivers

I very much enjoyed catching up with our Year 6 students for their Sydney Harbour cruise to Manly yesterday. At the end of the trip the ferry skipper said that ours was the best school group he had ever had! He then added ‘and I’m not just saying that’. Staff told me that they had received similar comments all week. It made me very proud to be ‘part of Frederick Irwin Anglican School’.

Today I am attending an Anglican Schools Australia Management Committee meeting in Sydney as the Western Australian Representative. How lucky am I that it coincided with the Year 6 trip, as I so enjoyed catching up with them!

I hear that the students on the alternative programme also had an enjoyable and productive week.

A huge thank you goes to all staff involved!

Kind regards
Kerry Robertson

A MESSAGE FROM THE CHAPLAIN

In Week Three, services were held to mark the start of Lent. Lent being a time for reflection before the Great Feast of Easter.

In the first few years of the church, Easter was the main feast and it wasn’t until the 4th century, for political reasons, that a date was chosen to celebrate Jesus’ birth (Christmas). Traditionally Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which has followed Shrove Tuesday(Pancake Day). This year, because of the Canberra trip, we celebrated Ash Wednesday a week earlier.

Our services are symbolic, as we centre on reflection and how we can open our hands to God’s forgiveness and leading  and thus open our hands to people, to share the love and blessings that God offers us. A banner showing a tree of hands depicting our community hands is on the Rush Chapel wall to signify this important time in the Christian calendar.

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEPUTY PRINCIPAL - CURRICULUM

Dear Parents

Welcome back to the new school year, and a particularly warm welcome to our new families and students.

I encourage parents to make sure they can login to SEQTA Engage and to become familiar with it. This is regularly up-dated with course and assessment information. There is also a link to the School’s Careers website as well as other documents such as examination timetables and assessment policies.  Parents and students need to be aware of the details in these documents.

A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY - MEADOW SPRINGS

The House Captain’s Commissioning Assembly, held last Friday morning, was a very special occasion that recognised and blessed our Primary leaders for 2020.

My address encouraged the students who were commissioned to reflect upon being a leader and the importance of carrying out their duties with responsibility and courage. READ MORE

A MESSAGE FROM OUR DEPUTY HEAD OF PRIMARY - MEADOW SPRINGS

A feeling of pride always overcomes staff of a school when they receive compliments about the behaviour and conduct of their students as they are out and about in the community.

This occurred on many occasions this week when a group of our Meadow Springs and Halls Head Year 6 students toured Canberra and Sydney. At many of the major sights and venues that we visited the tour guides were constantly commenting on the focus, listening and attention that all our students were showing. This is a compliment to the parents and staff across Frederick Irwin as it means our students are actually ‘living’ the school values, rather than just viewing them on the pencils or in classrooms across the school.

YEAR 7 ORIENTATION CAMP

The Year 7s had a fantastic time on 14 February at the Orientation Camp, starting with games, a sausage sizzle and a disco on the Friday and then more games and fun at the beach the next day.  It was a great chance to get to know each other and create memories that will last forever.

See below for the photos.

2020 BUSH DANCE

The 2020 Family Picnic and Bush Dance was held on Thursday 20 February at the Halls Head Campus and was a huge success.

As always, the Mucky Duck Bush Band had everyone dancing and having fun, and the BBar Bubble Tea was very popular along with the Prefect Run Sausage Sizzle.  All of the families who attended enjoyed themselves.
