St Mary's Newsletter

Term 2 - Week 8 (17 June 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Forgiveness

Forgiveness – We accept apologies and give others the opportunity to do the right thing and to have another chance.

Gospel: John 16:12-15

Jesus said, ‘When the Spirit of truth comes, he will lead you to the complete truth. He will glorify me since all he tells you will be taken from what is mine. Everything the Father has is mine.’

The Father loves the Son and Jesus loves the Father, and from their love the Holy Spirit bursts forth to give life to the world. The love between them is so strong, even though each is a unique and individual being, they act and love as one.

Corpus Christi

The Feast of Corpus Christi, also called Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, is a festival of the Roman Catholic Church in honour of the real presence of the body (corpus) of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist.

Interschool Cross Country

Today, some of our students participated in the Interschool Cross Country event in Bruce Rock. The weather was perfect and everyone did their very best. St Mary's School won the Primary School shield and came third overall. What a wonderful outcome for our school! Thank you to Mrs Crees for organising and to Mr Elliott for driving the bus. Individual results and more photos will be published in next week's bulletin.

Feast of the Sacred Heart

Today, the Year Two class hosted our Feast of the Sacred Heart Mass. Thank you to Miss Wells, Mrs Tomljanovich and the Year Two class for presenting a beautiful Mass. Thank you to Father Andrew and to the parents who attended.

The devotion to the Sacred Heart is one of the most widely practiced and well-known Catholic devotions. We take Jesus Christ's physical heart as the representation of his divine love for humanity.

P&F Meeting

Our next P&F Meeting will be held on Monday, 20 June at 7.30pm in the school library. All are invited and welcome to attend.

Family Friday

Family Friday will be held on Friday 24 June from 8.30am – 9.00am. All parents are invited and encouraged to visit classrooms during this time to see all the fantastic learning which has taken place this term.

Rapid Antigen Tests

Please collect your free RATs from the school office as soon as possible. Each student is entitled to 15 free RATs.

Children’s Liturgy

Children’s Liturgy will be held on Sunday, 26 June at 10.30am Mass. All children and families are invited and welcome.

SEQTA Engage and Semester One Reports / Kindy Portfolios

This semester, we will be sending home Semester One Reports via SEQTA Engage. This means that reports will be accessed electronically.

All families will receive an email today which will contain a link to set up your account. You will be required to select a username and password which will allow you entry into SEQTA Engage.

On the left-hand side bar, there is a tab labelled ‘Reports.’ This is the area in which you will be able to access your child/children’s Semester One Reports on Friday, 1st July.

Please set up your account as soon as possible, as the link in the email is only active for one week. Please email zoe.omalley@cewa.edu.au if you are having any trouble accessing SEQTA Engage or if you have not received an email.

Reports this semester will have comments for Religious Education and a general comment. All other learning areas will have grades and efforts. Please remember that a ‘C’ grade means your child is achieving what is required for their year level. A ‘C’ grade is ‘at standard.’

Kindy Portfolios will consist of a general comment and work samples. These will be sent home on Wednesday 29 June.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Acting Principal

Class News

Pre-Primary Class News

We have been very busy in Pre-Primary. In English, we have been learning about different jobs through our Talk For Writing text "Jobs People Do." We created some story maps to show the parts of the story. In Maths, we have been exploring positional language. We read a story called "Oh Look!" by Patricia Polacco and we went around the school acting out the parts of the story such as between, behind and in. In History, we have been learning about different events and celebrations. We designed and constructed some souvenir boxes with special symbols to commemorate Mother's Day, Valentine's Day, Anzac Day and many more. We have had lots of fun learning and growing this term.
