The Brush Telegraph

Week 7 – Term 2, 2022

Message From The Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Attendance

Congratulations to the students that received awards on Friday for 100% attendance for the year so far. Classes are focusing on achieving the ‘most improved attendance’ award for the next assembly. Every day counts towards a team effort across the classes.

Punctuality- It is important that your child attends school every day and on time. Arriving late to school is unsettling for children and disrupts the start to their day.

Did you know? 10 minutes late every day = 33 hours lost learning each year!! Routine is the easiest way to ensure your child attends school on time every day. If mornings are hectic in your household, prepare as much as possible the night before.

Challenge: Can we improve our attendance by the end of next month?

‘Young people must have their voices heard at all times. We cannot not be passive participants in the conversations about our future. We must get active and create the future the way we want it.’ ― Edem Agbana

Fathering Project

I am proud to announce the second Fathering Project meeting at Wingham Brush Public School is going ahead on Thursday 23 June at 5:30pm in the library. We are hoping all fathers and father figures will be able to attend with their children for a pizza and planes event. Could you please contact school office if attending for catering purposes. Looking forward to seeing you.

Sport Wrap

Wingham Brush PS has been very busy over the past few weeks representing the school in many sporting events.

A few weeks ago 32 students ventured to Taree’s Criterium Track to run in the Manning Zone PSSA Cross Country. It was the first time in living memory it has been moved from the Wingham Sporting Complex. Both Molly (5th) and Declan (2nd) completed their races exceptionally quick placing in the top 6 place-getters. They qualified to run at the Regional Carnival. Well done!

On Monday, the WBPS Mixed Basketball team played Wingham PS at Saxby’s Stadium. Mixed teams can play in the Boy’s State Knockout Competition. The game was played at a frantic pace and both teams excitingly drew at 27 points at the end of full time. In the allocated 10 minutes of extra time, our team efficiently scored baskets to pull off a well-deserved win. We are waiting the result of Old Bar PS and Gloucester PS (being played today) to see who will be our next challenger.

Yesterday Wingham Brush PS had two teams play in a Touch Football special knockout/ gala day at the sand-based fields at Tuncurry. The day was organised to ‘fast forward’ our local schools’ issue of falling way behind scheduling requirements due to our fields being closed for many months. Both the girls and boys played more experienced teams of Wingham PS and went down gallantly.

Thank you to all the parents and family that came along to support us at these sporting events. A special mention to our wonderful OOSH that have been able to graciously lend our teams their bus to ease transportation issues.

Eisteddfod

The infants choir represented our school at the Taree and District Eisteddfod 'Festival of Song' on Friday 3 June. We had 36 Year 1 and 2 students who sang on the huge stage at The Manning Entertainment Centre and received a special ribbon, a trophy for our school and also an $85 gift voucher for the school to spend at Bass'n'Blues. Congratulations to all students. Mrs Hayes is extremely proud of all the practise, the exceptional performance and feedback received from the audience and organisers. The adjudicator reported that the choir had a 'wonderful sense of timing' and 'very crisp actions.' You can see the infants choir perform at an assembly in the future. Details TBA.

National Treasures School Poetry and Short Story Writing Competition 2022

Congratulations Frankie

Today the winners and finalists of the ‘National Treasures School Poetry and Short Story Writing’ Competition for 2022 were announced. Our very own Frankie (Year 2) was named as a Finalist and will be published in a book with other children from all over Australia. Our little author, Frankie, wrote a poem called 'Where Music Takes You’. We are very proud of her achievement. Please enjoy her beautiful writing below.

The Great Books Festival Author Visit

The Great Books Festival is held annually over four days to celebrate Library and Information Week. The local library brings major authors and illustrators to local schools throughout the region giving many school children the opportunity to meet their favourite authors. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Adrian Beck.
