Dear families,

Next week is SSO Week, a special opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate the invaluable contribution of our School Services Officers at Hallett Cove East Primary School.

Our SSOs are essential to the smooth running of our school. They support many areas, including classroom and yard supervision, social and emotional learning, ICT support, front office administration, library services, intervention and learning support, and assisting students with individual needs. In addition, they play key roles in areas such as finance and resource management, first aid, maintaining records, and supporting school events, along with numerous other vital tasks. Their hard work helps ensure both students and staff are well supported every day. We truly believe that our school thrives thanks to the ongoing dedication of our SSO team.

We sincerely thank each of our SSO staff for their ongoing commitment and professionalism, which play a major role in creating the positive environment and smooth operation of our school. Please join us in recognising and thanking our SSOs for all that they do.

 Parking Safety

As we pass the halfway point of the school year and welcome our mid-year intake, it’s a good time to remind everyone about the parking zones around Hallett Cove East Primary School.

We have noticed increased traffic on Coorabie Crescent at the rear of the school, as well as in the usual drop-off zone at the front, especially during morning and afternoon pickups. The City of Marion has sent us a reminder to ensure that these parking areas are used correctly and legally, to keep them as efficient and safe as possible.

Community Safety Inspectors do patrol the area during term times and enforce parking regulations. For more information, please see the brochure included with this newsletter, which explains the different parking restriction signs. As always, we thank parents and family members for driving carefully around our school.

 School Gates

You may have noticed that our main pedestrian gates are being locked shortly after learning time begins each day. This step is to support our youngest students as they settle and adjust to school life. Thank you for your understanding as we implement this short-term strategy. The Forresters Road gate is usually accessible at other times during the day.

Farewell Robyn

As many of you know, Robyn Physick is leaving Hallett Cove East Primary School to take up the role of principal at Warradale Primary School.

Since joining HCEPS, Robyn has made a significant and lasting leadership impact—particularly in student intervention and support, literacy, and helping numerous students and families. Her warm, friendly presence and positive community connections have been a shining light for our school. Robyn also works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the daily operations of our school run smoothly.

We wish Robyn every success on the next step of her leadership journey.

Dear HCEPS Community

It is with a mixture of excitement, gratitude and a little sadness that I share that I will be stepping away from Hallett Cove East Primary School for the next 12 months to take on the role of Principal at Warradale Primary School.

This is an exciting next step in my leadership journey and an opportunity that I feel incredibly grateful to have. At the same time, saying goodbye to HCEPS is certainly not easy. This school community has become such an important part of my life, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked alongside such dedicated staff, wonderful students and supportive families.

During my time at HCEPS, I have had the privilege of watching our students learn, grow and thrive. I have loved the conversations in classrooms and the yard, the celebrations of success, the problem-solving, the laughter and all of those little moments that make working in a school community so special.

I am particularly grateful to our incredible staff and leadership team. Thank you for your trust, support, and collaboration. I have learnt so much from working alongside you and have been continually inspired by the commitment you show to our students and families every day.

To our students — thank you for making each day interesting, rewarding and often full of laughter! Continue to be curious, challenge yourselves, look after one another and believe in what you are capable of achieving. I will miss seeing your smiling faces around the school.

To our families and wider community, thank you for the support, conversations and trust you have placed in me. It has been a privilege to work alongside you and to be part of your children's educational journeys.

While I am sad to be stepping away from HCEPS, I am also incredibly excited about the opportunity ahead. For the next 12 months, I will be stepping into the Principal role at Warradale Primary School. I look forward to embracing this new challenge, continuing to grow as a leader and becoming part of another wonderful school community.

Thank you, HCEPS, for believing in me, supporting me and being such an important part of my leadership journey. This isn't necessarily goodbye — perhaps just see you later.

As part of our ongoing partnership with The Resilience Project, students have the opportunity to receive a GEM Award at our school assemblies. These awards recognise students who demonstrate Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness through their everyday actions.

Wellbeing is something we continue to develop and practise throughout our lives. By recognising students who demonstrate these qualities, we celebrate the small, everyday actions that contribute to a positive, caring and connected school community. If you would like to see how you can further support this, you can access the TRP Family Hub. 

We are also continuing to embed our HCEPS school values across all areas of school life. Our school values mascots are helping students develop a shared understanding of what it looks like, sounds like and feels like to demonstrate Respect, Fairness, Responsibility and Excellence at HCEPS. By using consistent language across our school, we hope to help students recognise these values in themselves and others and put them into practice each day.

And, in the spirit of practising gratitude ourselves, last week we celebrated Primary Principals Day! Staff and students came together to recognise our wonderful principals and show our appreciation for everything they do for our students, staff and wider school community. It was a lovely opportunity to say thank you and acknowledge the many ways they support HCEPS each and every day.

Student Wellbeing Leader

Many people are seeking more information regarding supporting their child with social skills.

Below is a link to an article from the Autism Awareness Australia website, it is called ‘Social Skills for Autistic children’. When you are reading this information, also remember communication between home and school and vice versa is an important part of supporting social skills. Many children wait until they are home in their ‘safe space’ to share with their families any social situations which may have occurred during break time. Therefore, the teacher may not be aware of anything which may have happened. Because of this, it is always appreciated when the teacher is informed of the social situation so they can follow anything up and put in place any required support to help that student in future social situations.

If any additional support is required, it is important to speak with your child’s specialist and follow the recommendations provided in their report.

Volunteers are important to our school community. Our canteen relies on help from volunteers to deliver a meal service to our pupils.

To enable us to provide a varied recess and lunch menu offer to our pupils we really do need your help.   

If you have a spare hour or more we would welcome your support.

Not registered with the school as a volunteer?  Volunteer application packs are available from the front office containing all the information you need to submit your registration as a volunteer...... WE NEED YOU

The shop is stocked with a variety of second hand uniform items. The money raised is given back to the school and utilised in fundraising projects.

Remember that if you have any unused uniform items in good clean condition, we'd love to receive them.  They can be left at the office anytime. Thank you.
