En cours de langue et littérature, les élèves de 5e section internationale ont récemment étudié le roman Parvana par Deborah Ellis. Il s’agit de l’histoire d’une fille qui vit en Afghanistan durant le règne des Talibans. Suite à l’étude de ce roman, les élèves ont fait des recherches sur les conditions de vie en Afghanistan, puis ils ont écrit des articles et ont travaillé en groupes pour créer un magazine. Ces magazines seront exposés prochainement au CDI.
Le 4 décembre, nous avons eu le plaisir de pouvoir accueillir un journaliste et écrivain local, Alan Sunderland, qui est intervenu auprès des élèves de 5e section internationale pour parler de son travail et ses expériences. En effet, M Sunderland est lui-même l’auteur d’une histoire d’un jeune réfugié afghan qui arrive en Australie sans sa famille. M. Sunderland a lu quelques extraits de ses livres, y compris une avant-première de son nouveau roman qui sera publié au mois de mars 2021 ! Il a aussi parlé de son travail de journaliste et écrivain, et nous a expliqué comment il a pu relier la fiction et la non-fiction dans la recherche et la création de ses livres. Les élèves ont eu l’opportunité de poser quelques questions intéressantes. Vous pouvez visionner un extrait de la rencontre, ici et là.
Year 7 International section students have recently studied the novel Parvana by Deborah Ellis in their language and literature class. It is the story of a young girl’s life in Afghanistan during the Taliban’s rule. After studying this novel, students did some research on life in Afghanistan, following which they wrote articles and worked together in groups to create a magazine. These magazines will soon be on display in the school library.
On December 4th, we were pleased to welcome a local writer and journalist, Alan Sunderland, to the school. He spent time with the Year 7 international section students and talked to them about his own experiences and work as a writer. Mr. Sunderland is the author of a story about a young Afghan boy who arrives in Australia as an unaccompanied refugee. Mr. Sunderland read some excerpts from his books, and even gave us a preview of his new novel which will be published in March 2021! He also talked about his own background as both a journalist and an author, and explained how he combines elements of fiction and non-fiction in the researching and creation of his books.
