Anniversary Celebrations

We look forward to welcoming you, our ex-students and the Melrose Park community to our school this Saturday 5 November as we celebrate the school's long awaited 75th Anniversary, two years late.  Come along, visit open rooms and look through old school photos and school memoribilia.

Our hard working P&C members are running activities and stalls for the first Market Day event since 2019. As a small community we need all our families to help support the event. Please take time and volunteer to help out on the cake stall, BBQ and games activities.

We need you!

Wellbeing - Emotional Literacy

Our wellbeing lessons at Melrose Park this term are all focused on emotional literacy.  We are working on expanding our emotional vocabulary as well as our understanding of how, why, and when we feel the way we do.  Then, we are talking about the ways that children can learn to be the boss of their own feelings.

Why is this helpful? Have you ever heard the phrase “You name it to tame it”?  Parenting expert, Dr Justin Coulson from Happy Families, uses this phrase as the first step to encourage children to start to regulate their emotions.  He also advises parents to Connect with your child first (by naming and validating their big emotions) - so that they feel “seen, heard and valued” and then to work on Correcting at a time when they are calm and able to process rationally.

If you’d like to read more on emotional coaching for parents here’s the website: https://www.happyfamilies.com.au/articles/emotion-coaching

Also, look out for your invitation to the MPPS parents’ course in the coming weeks: COACHING TO CONNECT FOR PARENTS, RESPONDING TO BIG EMOTIONS run by Relationships Australia this term.

The Weather in Year 3

Learning in Year 3

As part of our Geography unit, 3R have been investigating climate and the weather in Australia and neighbouring countries.

Using that knowledge, we put together some weather forecasts and dances of our own creation to form an item that was performed to the whole school as part of the assembly on 27th October.

The following were some of the reflections made by students after the performance:

Alex: I liked the weather forecast and how realistic it was.

Alice: It was really fun and relates to what we are learning about.

Maham: I love learning about weather. I love the background.

Andre: It’s a good way to express our feelings. We are learning about weather and climate zones.

Levi: Everybody was energetic, the songs were fun.

Alhan: The item was really fun, especially the thunder and lightening dance. It was mixed with dance and weather.

Mehek: Our assembly item was really fun and engaging. The music was perfect for the action and all of it was related to our learning too. Everyone was doing a fantastic job.

Aussie of the Month

Congratulations to our Aussie of the Month students Deion and Giselle. Deion from 1E was nominated this month as he consistently treats his peers and teachers with respect.

Giselle from 6M was also nominated as she takes pride in herself and the school. She also is seen treating others with respect.

The Aussie of the Month program plays an integral part in encouraging and recognising MPPS students who display a positive attitude at school which is in line with our PBL program.

Friday Sausage Sizzle

A sausage sizzle is being offered for students to enjoy a sausage on a roll for Friday lunch.

  • For $6.00 your child can have a hot sausage in a generous bun with or without onion and sauce.

    • Future dates Friday 18 November and Thursday 15 December (End of Year Celebration Day)
    • We are partnering with the business "Bacon n Eggs" to provide this service to our school community.
    • As this is  trial of providing a lunch service to students, we acknowledge that we may not be able to meet everyone’s needs at this time. We would appreciate any feedback to allow us to improve the Sausage Sizzle.
    • Thank you to our parents who are organising this trial of Friday lunches for students.
