#TimeForNature...

What a glorious sunny winter's day to take the learning outside! There's nothing like connecting with nature to create powerful messages of hope and determination in caring for our planet.

Student voice is always encouraged and nurtured here at Balmain Public School. Our students are making a difference today, tomorrow and beyond! Kindergarten's 'Nature Heart...full stop' says it all!

Drop Off and Pick Up Schedule

Drop off and Pick Up Schedule continues until further notice

As per the ongoing advice of the NSW Department of Education, ALL ADULTS (i.e. parents, carers and BPS staff) will still need to practice physical distancing. We ask that parents continue to remain outside the school gates at all times and practise these physical distancing measures.

Both our ‘kiss and drop’ zones in the morning staggered pick up schedules will continue until further notice.

Please note: Class teachers will remain with their class, at designated spot, until all students have been picked up, either by parents/carers, or Eaton St Centre (ESC), if booked in. The ESC staff are aware of the staggered dismissal and will pick up children from their teachers at designated areas.

We appreciate your cooperation in working with the school to keep our students, staff and community safe.

FROM THE OFFICE

Emails to the school/teachers

When emailing the school, please ensure you include your child's first and last name and class to ensure emails are forwarded promptly.

Dropping off food/items

If you are dropping off lunches/items for your child, please come to the office window and ring the bell first. This way, office staff can collect food/item from you to give to child, to minimise interruptions to learning.

Picking up students early

Should you be picking up your child early from school, please ring the bell at the office window. Your child will be called down to meet you at the gate.

2021 Year 5 Opportunity Class

Attention: Year 4 Students, Parents and Carers

The 2021 Year 5 Opportunity Class placement process was put on hold in April 2020, due to the COVID-19 situation.

The High Performing Students Team have revised and simplified the timeline for the OC placement process, to ensure that students and families can have certainty about their placement as soon as possible.

The changes include:

  • A new date for online applications. Parents must apply between 9 June 2020 and 26 June 2020. Late applications cannot be accepted.
  • A new test date - Wednesday 16 September 2020.

To ensure fair and consistent assessment of students across New South Wales, students will be offered places based only on their test results this year – there will be no school assessment scores.

There will also be no opportunity for appeals given the tight timeframes.

For further detailed information and continued updates regarding this process, visit - https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

World Environment Day 2020 - Time For Nature

"The foods we eat, the air we breathe, the water we drink and the climate that makes our planet habitable all come from nature.

Yet, these are exceptional times in which nature is sending us a message:To care for ourselves we must care for nature.

It’s time to wake up. To take notice. To raise our voices. It’s time to build back better for People and Planet."

This World Environment Day, it’s Time for Nature.

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 5 June every year, and is the United Nations' principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of the environment. First held in 1974, it has been a flagship campaign for raising awareness on environmental issues emerging from marine pollution, human overpopulation, and global warming, to sustainable consumption and wildlife crime. World Environment Day has grown to become a global platform for public outreach, with participation from over 143 countries annually. Each year, WED has provided a new theme that major corporations, NGOs, communities, governments and all celebrities worldwide adopt to advocate environmental causes.

Treehouse students researched environmental problems with the intention to come up with a way to solve them. Students developed prototypes, models and posters to showcase how they envisioned working towards a more sustainable world.
