St Mary's Bulletin

Term 4 - Week 3 (30 October, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

World Educators Day

Today is World Educators Day.  It is a day for us to celebrate and acknowledge our educators.  This year, despite major challenges, educators have made sure that education has continued across the country. Educators play a significant role in the lives of children and students, their families and communities.  We are very fortunate to have educators of a high quality at St Mary’s School who always go above and beyond for our students.  Thank you to the P&F for spoiling the staff with their gift of Merre Granola (which is locally produced) - it was much appreciated!

All Saints and All Souls Day

Sunday is All Saints' Day.  This is a solemn holy day of the Catholic Church which is celebrated annually. The day is dedicated to the saints of the Church, that is, all those who have attained heaven. It should not be confused with All Souls' Day, which is observed on November 2, and is dedicated to those who have died and not yet reached heaven.  We will be having a Liturgy in the Undercover Area that begins at 10.15am on Monday for All Souls.  All are welcome to attend.

GEMS

Mrs O’Malley and I will be attending GEMS in Esperance on Monday and Tuesday of next week.  Mrs Grant and Miss Walsh will be responsible for the school in our absence.

Celebrating Former Students

I had the pleasure of attending the Merredin College Year 12 Graduation last Friday evening.  It is always affirming to hear of past students who have gone on to achieve highly after they have left St Mary’s.  Congratulations go to Panashe Mudimu, Halle Douglas and Charlee Brooker who received Subject Awards.  Charlee was also awarded Sportsperson of the Year and Panashe tied for the Gerard Rennie Award for Most Consistent ATAR student.  The future is bright for these young ladies.

Canteen Survey

Thank you to all the families who responded to the canteen survey.  There was overwhelming support for the introduction of an online ordering platform to help with the ordering process.  A pamphlet for QuickCliq went home to all families yesterday.  All families can use QuickCliq to order from the canteen from Monday, 9 November.  Thank you to Mrs Demarte for setting this up and to Mel Carr (School Board Treasurer) who did all the research for an online ordering system last year.  As with most things this year, COVID19 impacted on our plans to launch this earlier in the year!  Later this term, in preparation for 2021,  we will be activating the option for uniforms to be ordered online also.

Week 5 Assembly

Due to Swimming Lessons for Pre-primary to Year Two the Assembly in Week Five will take place at 2.15pm in the Undercover Area.

Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon!

Week Five - Monday 9th November until Friday 13th November. There will once again be a wide variety of books available for you to choose from. More information to follow in the Week Four Newsletter.

Remembrance Day

Due to swimming lessons, the St Mary's Remembrance Day liturgy will be held at 1.15pm on November 11.  Zoe and Charlie will represent St Mary's School at the service organised by the Shire of Merredin earlier in the day.

Grandparents Morning

Next Friday, 6 November is Grandparents Morning.  While COVID19 restrictions will mean that grandparents can’t visit classrooms – we still have a beautiful liturgy commencing at 9.00am in the Undercover Area and morning tea planned to celebrate our grandparents and all that they do and all that they are in our families.  Please ensure that you rsvp your attendance to assist with catering.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal
