St Pat's News

August 28, 2019

At St Patrick’s Parish Primary School we hold the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people as a central and fundamental responsibility of our school.

From The RE Leader - Peter Sanderson

Feast of St Augustine

Today is the Feast of St Augustine who was born in 354 AD in the time of the Roman Empire, in what is now the north African country of Algeria. In his lengthy book called “Confessions”, Augustine tells us that he was influenced to become a Christian when, somehow, he heard God telling him to “take up and read”. Augustine started to read the Bible and discovered God. The example and prayers of his mother Monica (whose Feast Day was yesterday) contributed to his becoming a Christian at the age of 33. Augustine wrote these words: “Leave the past to God’s mercy, the present to his love, and the future to his providence.”

Let us pray:

Lord, we give you thanks for the assurance that the past can be left to your mercy,

the present to your love and the future to your providence.

Help us to grow more aware of your loving presence,

that we may live more authentically and proclaim by our words and actions

the good news of the fullness of your love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

From The Principal - Sue Paulka

Dear Parents, Parishioners, Carers, Staff & Students,

Our sympathy is extended to Wendy, Matthew, Lauren (Yr 6) and Dan (Yr 1) Kelly on the passing of Wendy’s father earlier this week.

Father’s & Special Friend's Day breakfast

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our annual Father’s and Special Friend's Day breakfast this morning. It was great to see so many families there. Thanks to all those who helped with the organisation. We hope all our Dads and father figures enjoy a lovely day on Sunday.

Hats

As per our Sunsmart policy, school hats will be required to be worn at all playtimes from next Monday. Now is the time of year when UV levels begin to rise and the Cancer Council recommends the reintroduction of Sunsmart measures. Perhaps the wearing of hats may encourage a bit more warmth and sunshine!

Camp

Our Yr 3/4 classes are heading to Rose’s Gap tomorrow for their overnight camp. They’re all getting very excited! Thanks to the 3/4 staff for their organisation of this experience.

Kind regards,

Sue Paulka

Principal

F/1P News

In Foundation and Year 1 we have spent the past three weeks reading and identifying features of non-fiction texts. In particular, during shared reading we have learned new information about cows.

An interesting fact that we discovered about dairy cows was, every day a single dairy cow produces 19 to 30 litres of milk and cows have no upper cutting teeth, therefore they tear off grass by moving their head.

In Writing, we have used the information gathered from our non-fiction text about cows to help us write our own information report. The children did a great job of writing their own information report on cows. The Foundation students were asked to write three facts and the Year 1s five to six facts.

This new information that we have been gathering in reading has nicely supported the learning that has been taking place in our Inquiry unit: Where does food come from?

We now move onto Narratives in Reading and Writing this week.

No Parking at the School Crossing

In an effort to improve child safety in and around the school crossing, the Moyne Shire has erected a number of "No Standing" signs near the crossing, which means no parking is permitted in the area between the signs. Please be mindful of this when dropping off and picking up your children so that you are not fined.

The office is open from 8.30am - 4.00pm each day.

There is no supervision for students before 8.40am. Teachers use the time prior to the doors opening for setting up for the day, therefore they are not available to supervise students. Students who arrive at school prior to 8.40am need to wait at the side door near the hall until the doors are opened.

The bell for the start of the day rings at 8.55am, any student arriving after this time needs to be signed in using the iPad at the office.

The bell for the end of the day rings at 3.20pm. If for any reason you are going to be later than 3.30pm to collect your child/children, please contact the school office.

Wellbeing News - There will be no House Groups this Friday August 30th. The yoga/ cooking/ ukulele/ craft rotation will be held on Friday September 13th.
