Kerri Beavan.
It is with great sadness that we share with our WPS community the news that our much loved lollipop lady, Kerri Beavan passed away quite suddenly last week. Kerri is a very well-known and valued community member who has been significantly involved with the school for almost 20 years. Kerri’s daughters, Brianna and Kayla attended Wyong Public School from Kindergarten which is when Kerri first began volunteering. Whether it was in the canteen or assisting with fundraising, Kerri was always ready to help. As a life member of our P&C she was always willing to take on responsibilities no matter what was required.
Kerri has organised and supervised our Annual Book Fair for some time and has been the Book Club coordinator for many years. Kerri loved literature and relished in sharing her love of books with the students of our school.
Kerri has worked for the council as our school crossing lady for many years, keeping our children, parents and staff safe as they journey to and from school each day. For many of our students her face was the first that they would see every morning as they arrived at school and the last to say goodbye in the afternoon.
Kerri will be deeply missed by our school community and we pass on our heartfelt condolences to her husband Lionel and daughters, Brianna and Kayla as well as her many family and friends in the local area.
The school is working with the P&C to determine how best and appropriate to support Kerri’s family.
If any one would like to support Kerri’s family in this hard time, the following fundraisers have been established in her honour.
- Trivia night Saturday, June 8th $10 per person at Wyong Golf Club. Booking essential 0413581448
- McDonald's Wadalba Tuesday, June 11 between 6-7pm. Raffle and competition inside store 10% of proceeds will be donated to Kerri’s family.

Rest in Peace, Kerri.
Staff Professional Learning
Later in term 4 the staff would normally complete two school development days for training and planning. This year we have been completing various professional development and mandatory training after school in order to gain additional time which will allow both of these end of year days to be school free. So far the staff have completed mandatory CPR / Anaphylaxis training, as well as completed various professional learning on our Writing focus, Consistent Teacher Judgement and modules in the Learning Progressions. These session times and more will allow these end of term 4 days to be school free for all staff who attended.
New Equipment for playground
The new climbing equipment has finally been completed in the playground. Children this week have begun using the new equipment which we hope they are enjoying the use of. At recess time we have had to limit the play to either K-2 or 3-6 students to reduce the numbers of children using the area as it has proven popular. There will be some basic rules for use, but from all reports the children have enjoyed using the new equipment and it seems to be a good investment.
NAPLAN
The NAPLAN week went well here at school with no issues and the children all appeared to have a good week with the various assessments. Results will be released later in term 3. Our school had no issues with the assessments themselves as the children did the paper / pencil assessment and not the online version.Thank you to Mrs Arnot and Mr Kember for their organisation of this. Students who were absent during the assessments had the chance to complete the assessments on Friday of week 3.
Leaving School Early
Please could parents/carers who need to collect their children from school early be reminded that no student is to leave the school early without informing the office staff so that they can process an early leaving slip. The time someone leaves is a legal requirement and we thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Even if a classroom teacher has been informed of the need to leave early and the student is waiting in the office area, office staff must still be informed. This procedure is in place to ensure the safety of your children so your support in this matter is greatly appreciated.
