FROM THE PRINCIPAL

P & C AGM

We had a spectacular turn out at the P & C AGM way back in Week 4. All the roles were relinquished and nominees were taken for 2023.

A huge thank you to Alex Warland for her work as the P & C president over the past two years.

Congratulations to:

  • President - Jade
  • Secretary - Adelle
  • Canteen - Jaye
  • Treasurer - Michael
  • Uniforms - Prue (for Term 1)

Swimming Champions

A massive congratulations to Denny, Levi and Mia for their amazing efforts at the swimming carnival last Wednesday. We are so proud of you all!

Winter Festival

You read correctly - THE WINTER FESTIVAL. We are in the early stages of the planning for the 2023 Winter Festival. This year's date is Sunday 18 June. Once the organising committee has a rough outline for the day we will open it up to a broader meeting. The organising committee will be meeting this week.

Inflatable Fun Day

After another postponed Inflatable Fun Day we are looking at rebooking for Week 8 of this term. Once we have confirmation, a new note will go out.

School Closure Due to Water Over Roads

We had a very wet Friday last week which saw us evacuate our school just before 9:30am. A huge thanks to all the parents who supported this process by collecting children from Brunswick Valley Coaches.

As a school, we tried to remain open to ease the inconvenience on parents. After our review on Friday and earlier today I must report that we will be returning to the policy:

"That the moment there is any water over the causeway (regardless of how little) we will close our school and evacuate."

This may mean that on occasions we make the incorrect decision but it will ensure that our whole community is safe, including all of our staff.

If you would like to know more about what process our school follows in order to make our school non operational, please drop in for a chat.

The Pocket Road

The Pocket Road

A reminder to give way at the causeways where you see a give way sign. It can be tricky when we are in a rush to drop our kids off and get to work or to that appointment but it is essential that we use caution when crossing the causeways. Many parents have already had near misses.

Communication

We use Skoolbag to communicate information to our community. Please make sure you sign up to your child's class in the "Groups" section of the app to receive class updates and specific information.

We also send out hard copy notes for excursions or for school events.

If you need to contact the school we recommend you call us on 66845226 or email us on thepocket-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

If your child is absent from school for any reason you can log their absence on the skoolbag app or through one of the above methods. Please do not text message staff with your child's absence. This information must come through the front office.

There may be parent whatsapp groups for parent communication, please remember that this is not a school communication tool though.

Wellbeing Coffee Mornings

Our Wellbeing Coffee Morning is on again this Thursday.

Zoe and myself will be in the pick up / drop off zone. If you have any questions about supporting your child or you just want to have a coffee and chat then drop in between 8:40 - 9:15am.

Welcome BBQ, Student Leadership Induction and Meet the Teacher

We have a fantastic morning planned for you all this Tuesday 28 February.

Welcome BBQ

Everyone is invited to come and join us at the Welcome BBQ. This event is to meet new people and to see some friendly faces. It will be held in the COLA from 8:15 - 9:00am.

Student Leadership Induction

We will officially induct our Student Leadership Team. Our SRC members, Vice Captains and School Captains will receive their badges. Parents will be asked to come forward and pin the badges on so if your child is in the SRC this year be sure to come along.

Meet The Teacher

Our Meet the Teacher session will follow the Student Leadership Induction. These sessions give parents an opportunity to go into their child's classroom and hear how the days are planned and what they will be learning this term / semester.

A flyer was sent home with all of the details.
