PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

This extra newsletter for Term 2 is to let you know a few more pieces of information before we break for the holidays.

As we head into Term 3 we have had a few staffing changes that I would like to let you know about. We say farewell, for now, to the following staff members:

·         Mrs Amy Henderson, who very kindly took on the Phys. Ed. specialist role for us this term while we ran a process for a new permanent specialist. She did a fantastic job of stepping in at short notice to take classes and organise our cross country and winter sports events.

·         Mrs Wendy Burr, who has been with us in Room 4 since the beginning of the year, will be taking leave for Term 3. She will be undertaking some new beginnings with her husband, as he settles into a new professional role, and hopefully finding some time to relax!

·          I will be taking long service leave for the first five weeks of next term, Mrs Salt will be stepping into the Principal role with Mr Dorozenko acting as Deputy Principal for that time.

·         We also say goodbye for now to Mrs Karen Westaway who has done a magnificent job supporting Ms Spagnolo in Room 7 whilst Ms Addison has been on leave. I’m sure we will be seeing her around throughout different classes in the school during the next semester.

To cover the above absences, I would like to welcome the following people into our school:

·         Firstly, Mr Aaron Bacci who won a competitive process to be appointed as our new permanent Phys Ed specialist. He is joining us after spending time at Redcliffe PS just in time for the busiest sporting term of the year! I’m sure we will all make him feel welcome.

·         I can tentatively announce Mrs Andree Austin as Mrs Burr’s replacement in Room 4. She has been put forward for the position from our teaching pool. Please note that we are still waiting on confirmation from staffing to finalise this appointment but, all going well, we will see Mrs Austin’s smiling face in Room 4 from the beginning of next term.

·         I can also tentatively announce that a new teacher to our school, Ms Callen Toner, will be replacing Mr Dorozenko for the first five weeks of Term 3. She comes to us highly recommended by a local school and she is very much looking forward to joining our team. As with Mrs Austin, this is also pending confirmation from staffing.

Please understand that we wouldn’t usually announce the names of replacement teachers until their appointments were finalised. However, in this instance, with the holidays upon us, I feel that giving you an idea of what will most probably occur next term is better than leaving it as a complete unknown. Should there be any changes that occur over the holiday break, I will email the classes involved to keep you informed.

On another note, please read the important information below from Mrs Bird, our music specialist, regarding the upcoming One Big Voice concert. It contains information on how to purchase tickets.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone for making Scarborough PS such a wonderful place to come each day to work and to learn. It is a truly special community. I wish you all a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to seeing everybody back next term.

Kind regards

Ms Sarah Dawson

Principal

One Big Voice

Dear Parents & Caregivers

The Choir will be performing at the evening performance of One Big Voice Festival on Friday 30 August at RAC Arena.

All current choir members received a new file with lyrics for the concert songs last Monday 1 July. This contains login details for the website and a chart detailing which part we sing for each song.  The website has all the recordings and videos for them to practise in the holidays. Please encourage and support them to practise both the singing and choreography.

 TICKETS:

The concert will take place from 6:45pm - 8:45pm. If you wish to buy tickets to the event, they will be on sale through Ticketek from midday on Wednesday 10 July.

Our choir will be located in the Beethoven section. If you go to www.onebigvoice.com.au and look under information, you will find the approximate location of Scarborough Primary School.

NEW REHEARSAL TIMES:

Next term we will need to step up rehearsals to be ready for this concert. We will be adding Friday before school rehearsals and continuing with Monday lunchtime as well. Students should arrive 8:20am Friday mornings at the library. Please be punctual so we can have a successful rehearsal.

More details on times and forms to complete will come home early next term. Should you have any urgent queries, please email Mrs Bird on tamara.bird@education.wa.edu.au
