Term 4 - Week 4 (4 November 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Trust

We rely on each other to do the right thing.

Gospel: Luke: 20: 27-38

In Sunday’s Gospel, some Sadducees try to trick Jesus, but he answers, “People of this world take wives and husbands but those in heaven do not marry.  Being children of the resurrection, they are sons and daughters of God.”  God promises us eternal joy in heaven.  When couples fall in love and marry, they experience a glimpse of the glory of heaven.  Wonderful as marriage can be, it is only a shadow of the joy that awaits us in heaven.

All Saints Day

The Pre-primary class led the community in the Mass for All Saints Day.  This was their first time leading Mass and they did a fabulous job, reading well, singing beautifully and being reverent.  Congratulations to Miss Ferraro and Mrs Lane for all their hard work in preparing the students.

Year Two Reading at Mass

The Year Two Class will be reading at the 10.30am Mass on Sunday.  All are welcome to attend.

Grandparents Day

It was wonderful to welcome all our grandparents and special friends to school this morning.  I am not sure who was prouder, the students of their grandparents or the grandparents of the students!  After being in classrooms, the grandparents then joined the students for a special liturgy led by our Year Six students, before catching up with each other for a morning tea in the Undercover Area.  Thank you to Mrs Riethmuller for her organisation of the day and to Mrs Demarte for her catering.

Book Fair

The St Mary’s Book Fair will be held next week in the Library.  This is a wonderful way to promote reading amongst our students.  All students will have the opportunity to have a look at the Fair after lunch on Monday.  They may come home with a wish list.

You will find a high quality and quantity of books at our Book Fair with a wide assortment for all reading levels. Books make fantastic Christmas gifts that your children will treasure.  More information (including specific opening dates) can be found on the poster further in the Newsletter.  Thank you in advance to Mrs Louise Discenza for all her hard work in organising the Book Fair for St Mary’s School.

Wellbeing Week

Next week, is Wellbeing Week at St Mary’s.  While the students will not be having homework and the teachers are asked not make meetings before and after school, it is a good reminder for everyone to take stock and focus on what really matters before the 'silly season' is upon us.

Remembrance Day

Next Friday, 11 November is Remembrance Day.  St Mary’s School will be holding a service on the lawn area in front of the flag poles at 11.00am.  All are welcome to attend.  Our Head Boy, Brock and Head Girl, Ellie will be representing St Mary’s School at the Shire of Merredin service which will commence at 10.30am outside the Visitor’s Centre.  They will be accompanied by myself and Mrs Riethmuller.

Water Fountain

Our new water fountain has been installed outside Pre-primary (school side).  This is a combined school and P&F purchase which was gratefully installed (at no cost to the school) by Merredin Refrigeration and Airconditioning.  The new fountain is multi-purpose (drink fountain, bottle filler and water faucet) and will replace both fountains outside the early years.  The other fountain (outside Kindy) will be removed in due course.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio

Principal

Class News

Year Four/Five Class News

A lot has happened in the Year 4/5 classroom in Semester Two! We have participated in Family Fridays, the Athletic Carnival, Interschool Athletics Carnival and our Learning Journey. Today, we spent a wonderful morning with our grandparents, celebrating all the wonderful things they have done for us. We are also learning about the history of Remembrance Day (the 11th of November) and the importance of remembering those who fought for Australia.

As we are attending the Parish Mass on Friday the 11th of November at 9am, we would like to invite you to join us.
