Term 1 Week 8: 13th March - 17th March 2023

Principal's Blog

Welcome to Week 8!

Last week I had students visit from both ends of our school. Four Kindergarten students came to share their sentences. All the students were very proud of their work and were able to confidently read back their writing. Lilla and Zahli from 5/6R wrote two very persuasive pieces about why CBPS should have a swimming pool. Great job girls you were very convincing!

Pick Up and Drop Off

Thank you again to all the parents and care givers who continue to show patience and consideration by assisting us to make our students safer as they leave our school site. We remind parents and children that the middle crossing is closed while the pickup area is in operation. All students who need to cross our school road, whether they are meeting parents parked on that side of the road or walking through the pathway into Satinwood Circuit, join the group that waits in front of our K-2 toilets and cross at the top crossing with Mrs Nebauer.  Using the crossing currently causes unneeded traffic congestion.

Reminder of dismissal groups exiting the school.

  • Before and After School Care - assemble on the stage under the COLA to have roll marked and will move off with Before and After School Care staff.
  • Bus lines and students meeting parents or walking north on Park Ave - assemble on path near play equipment and walk with accompanying teachers to Park Ave for bus or to meet parents.
  • Students of parents who are parked across from the school or who walk through the park or up the stairs onto Silky Oak Drive. - assemble in front of Infants boy’s toilets and exit through gate at the top crossing. We are limiting the use of the lower crossing till after parked cars and cars using the pickup zone have cleared so ask that all students needing to cross our school road use the top crossing.
  • Students for pick up area or who walk along our school road. - assemble under the COLA near the pathway in two marked areas   1. Walkers’ main gate & 2. Pick up zone. The walkers will be escorted out the gate first and asked to move quickly passed the pickup zone. The pickup zone students are then walked to assemble in the shelter.
  • Bikes – join their designated line, either top crossing, main gate, or bus line and move off first.

  • We encourage families who live north of our school to direct their children to join our bus lines and meet parents to either walk or drive from Park Ave. We encourage parents to keep clear of our specified groups and meet their children in a safe designated area allowing free flow of movement. All students are reminded that if at any time they are unsure of their afternoon arrangements to go straight to their teacher or the office before leaving the school grounds. We understand that these arrangements can change throughout the day and ask parents to always contact the school so children can be notified. All staff are under the COLA with their students to assist in the afternoon dismissal of students.

    KF

KF have settled beautifully into school life. They have adapted quickly to new routines and are happily engaging in class activities. We love learning about numbers and how Maths is all around us. After reading ‘One is a Snail and 10 is a Crab’ we created our own numbers using legs from animals. Here are some photos of how clever we are!

Hippity hop, hippity hop here comes... "The Easter Hat Parade'! This year our Easter extravaganza will be held on Thursday 6th April 2023. No need to rush out and buy things to make your child’s Easter hat. This year the students are getting together with their buddy class to make their Easter hats, with resources provided by the school. More information will be coming out soon, so please save the date and don’t miss out on this great occasion.

    Grow Your Mind

It is important to remember how to treat people with courtesy and respect.

We can use our Grow Your Mind animals to help us achieve this.

This fortnight is the OCTOPUS who helps us understand about feelings and emotions. To do this we need to learn about our own feelings and how to be sensitive towards our friends and family.

    Wellbeing

    What causes stress?

Stress is a response to an unexpected change, challenge in a single event or can be over a period. We worry, unable to relax and concentrate due to the difficult situation. There may be tears, trouble sleeping, overreacting, loss of appetite and headaches or body pains.

Is stress the same as anxiety?

No, a person who is in anxious condition is unable to do things as it interferes with social and daily functions at work or school.

How can children cope with everyday stress?

Everyone responds differently to stressful situations. Understanding stress and its triggers can stop us from getting overwhelmed. Keep a daily school schedule, after school activities and consistent home routine. Good sleep hygiene. Stay in touch with family and friends. Eat a balanced diet. Regular exercise. Reach out for support from friends, family, GP and health service.
