Principal`s Report

As we head towards the final part of the year we ask that you keep informed through the newsletter and also the school application.

Last day of school is Wednesday 18th December, 2019.

Staff have completed extra training outside school hours which has allowed them to have these days free from school duties. Some staff will be in on these days to plan and prepare for 2020.

Kindergarten enrolments have already started for 2020, and we would appreciate these being finalised before the end of term.

Alternately if you are leaving the school and enrolling elsewhere we would appreciate the office being advised.

School reports are being prepared and will be sent home at the beginning of week 10 on the 16th December 2019. If you require any follow up with these we ask that you make inquiries to your child's teacher.

Kindergarten Report

Term 4 has already gotten off to a busy start.

Kindergarten Transition (Leap into Learning) is well on its way and the new kindies are having a lot of fun and getting to know all about Big School. There is still plenty of time to enrol in the transition program if your child is starting school next year. We would love to hear from you. Contact the office for enrolment forms and details. Leap into Learning will be running up until the end of the term.

Kindergarten also got to have an incursion with the Sydney Opera House on Tuesday, 12th  November and that was a lot of fun. We performed together and were thoroughly entertained. Can’t wait to do it all over again next year.

Gearing up for Christmas means teachers are looking for any donations of Christmas craft material you might have lying around. Please send anything in with your child to donate to their class decorations. Our K-2 Christmas Assembly will be held towards the end of the term, so start getting your Christmas outfits ready. More details about this will follow closer to the event.

All library borrowing has stopped now as they get the library ready for next year. If your child has any overdue books on loan, please return them as soon as possible. I’m sure Mrs Adams would be very appreciative!

Thank you to all the families who kindly donated money to the farmers recently for our Dress like a Farmer Day. Money raised will certainly go a long way towards helping them in these tough times.

2020 Student Elections

The student election process is now underway for 2020's student leaders. The students will need to fill out a form that endorses their nomination with a teacher and a student to sign. The student will need to be 95% or above to qualify. Once students have been nominated a 1 minute speech will be written and delivered to Year 5 only in week 7. From here, the top 10 boys and 10 girls selected will go through to the second round. These students will be able to campaign with one poster around the school and will present the same speech in front of Years 2-6 on Thursday 5th December. The 2020 student leaders will be announced at the 3-6 Presentation Day in week 9. Good luck to all of our Year 5 nominated students.

Stage 3 Gala Day

Remembrance Day Ceremony

Last week Abbey and I went down to Wyong RSL, to represent Wyong Public School at the Remberance Day Ceremony. Abbey and I had the honour of reading the Flander`s Field poem, alongside the Wyong High School Vice Captains, who shared what  Remembrance Day means to them. We`d like to thank Wyong RSL for inviting us and for the amazing ceremony. Abbey and I would also like to thank Mr Miladinovic for taking us there. We are both very grateful we were given the opportunity to represent Wyong Public School.

School Swimming and Water Safety Program

School Swimming and Water Safety Program commenced on Monday 25th November and will continue until Friday 6th December.

Students will depart school by 9.00 am daily and return by 10.45 am. Students will need to be at school by 8.30 am each day so they are ready to leave at 9.00 am.

Late students will not be able to travel to the pool on the bus. Parents will need to transport late students to the pool in time for the 9.30 am lesson.

All students attending Swim School will be required to wear their swimming costume under their school uniform during the program and will need to bring an additional T-shirt and thongs/flip flops to school each day as they will change from their school uniform into their T-shirt for travel to and from the pool. Students will change back into their school uniform once they return to school.  Students therefore will need to have all necessary clothing, towel and goggles (if needed) in a separate bag, clearly marked with their name ready for Swim School on Monday.

All students attending the program will eat lunch at the regular times and can continue to order canteen lunches as they currently do.

Mrs Suzie Pass and Mrs Stepfanie Norman will be the teachers attending Swim School.

Bottle Top Collection

Thank you for your ongoing support with our bottle top collection. I estimate we have collected and sorted around 100,000 bottle tops. How amazing! The children have been busy helping to colour sort them in the playground before we send them on to Canberra. Pictured are some students from 6W with just a very small portion of our collection.Envision Hands have already collected their target of 2 million bottle tops and are now looking into other products they can recycle the plastic lids into. They have ideas such as using them for kids toys and plastic play or sports equipment that can come back to the schools they have been collected from. It is wonderful to think we have saved so much plastic from landfill.Keep collecting your bottletops, and remember they must be clean and have the white plastic insert removed before bringing them into school. Thanks so much for your support with this amazing cause.

Wyong Public School's Dream Team

The Dream Team have been busy programming their robots to complete different missions on their game table. As part of their innovation project the team have been designing 3D printed little library prototypes. They have been fortunate enough to have Matilda's grandfather visit, giving them building tips and offering to build one of their designs. We were incredibly grateful for his expertise, the little library looks fantastic. The little library will be positioned near the canteen. It will be a place for children to donate unwanted books from home and an opportunity for another student to take and read at school or home. It will be a chance for young children waiting for their older siblings before 3 pm to sit and read with their families. We are also thankful to Bunnings Tuggerah for donating some of our building materials. We were also lucky enough to have team Apollo visit us last Friday and share their robotics knowledge with us. Good luck this Sunday Dream Team at the First Lego League tournament!
