Principal's Message

Dear Community

As we head to towards the end of 2020 we have several end of year events coming up as follows.

  • Kindy Group 1 Concert 2pm 7/12
  • Award Presentations PP and Rooms 4, 5 and 6 2pm 8/12
  • Award Presentations Rooms 1, 2, 9 and 11 2pm 9/12
  • Kindy Concert Group 2 2pm 11/12
  • Graduation Assembly 2pm 15/12
  • PP concert 2pm 16/12

All of these events are invitation only for parents to comply with COVID restrictions. For Kindy, Pre Primary and the Graduation events you will receive an email from your classroom teacher outlining limits of attendees for families. For the Award Presentations, you will receive an invitation in the next week with details of limits if your child will be receiving an award.

Events such as these are always a lovely note to finish the year on so we are very much looking forward to the next few weeks as we finish off 2020.

2021 Enrolments

As mentioned in the last newsletter, it is that time of year when we start looking at our staffing and classroom structures for next year. If you are aware that you are leaving or if you know of any families who have moved into the area and are intending to enrol their children here next year, please let our front office staff know. This will greatly assist with our planning.

Whilst we probably won’t be in a position to finalise our class structures before the end of the year, we are currently considering any requests that parents may have regarding suggestions for student placements next year. If you have any requests, please email me on Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au . You will understand that whilst it isn’t always possible to make every request happen, we will give them all consideration in our planning.

School Board

At our final School Board meeting for 2020 we welcomed Claire Prenter as our new parent representative.

We also reviewed the reply we received from the Minister of Education regarding our rising numbers and the likelihood of receiving funding for a new building to accommodate extra classes. Whilst the response was somewhat non-committal it did state that the issue of student capacity at our school is currently under consideration.

Discussion was also held around the development of a Good Standing clause to be included in the school’s Positive Behaviour Policy to comply with Department requirements. This clause will now be reviewed by staff and then a final draft will be noted by the Board before its inclusion in the policy.

Finally, the Board also undertook its annual responsibility of noting the Booklists and Contributions and Charges for 2021.

I would like to thank all Board members for their contributions this year. They have given up several evenings throughout the year to give valuable input into the strategic direction of our rapidly changing school context and their thoughtful and constructive efforts are very much appreciated.

As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me

The Salvation Army - Food and Gifts Christmas Appeal

2020 has been a difficult year for communities across Australia. And as Christmas approaches – it is becoming increasingly clear that many Australians are going to struggle to have even a modest celebration.

We all know Christmas is a time for joy. But for those doing it tough – it is often challenging, heartbreaking and isolating. Every Christmas, The Salvation Army provides around 160,000 meals and over 64,000 hampers and vouchers to individuals and families in need. As COVID-19 continues to impact individuals, families and communities across the country, your support now is more important than ever. By donating food or gifts, you can help us make sure we leave no one in need this festive season.

Scarborough Primary School is collecting food and gifts for the Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. If you would like to donate items towards the appeal please bring them into the front office and place them under the Christmas tree.

Q. Can I donate gift vouchers?

A. Yes! We really appreciate and, in some cases, prefer gift vouchers. Gift vouchers mean a parent doesn't miss out on the joy of purchasing a gift for their child. Gift vouchers are also an ideal gift for teenagers.

Q. Can I wrap the items I donate?

A. No, please do not wrap gifts. This allows parents the special experience of choosing gifts for their child's unique personalities and interests. Feel free to include wrapping paper or a gift bag for parents to use.

Q. Can I donate good quality used items?

A. No, please only donate new items. Please remember, the gift you donate may be the only present someone receives this Christmas. We know Christmas isn't only about receiving gifts, but this is one way we can help families feel special. Your nearest Salvos Store would gladly receive your good quality pre-loved gifts.

2021 School Charges and Contributions

Coming home via email today will be the 2021 Voluntary School Charges and Contributions. There will also be a link to the document on our school website - 2021 Voluntary School Charges and Contributions.

The schedule is broken into four sections and will allow you to calculate all costs that may be incurred throughout the 2021.

Each year the school asks parents to contribute $60.00 per child as a voluntary contribution. Voluntary contribution payments are allocated directly to curriculum areas of Literacy, Numeracy, The Arts, ICT, Physical Education, Science, HASS and STEAM.

You are welcome to pay the voluntary contributions either through your booklist order or at the beginning of next year.  Please don’t pay charges until you have received notification and cost of activity from the school.  The estimated costs for listed charges are the maximum amounts that the school will not exceed; actual costs for most items will be  less.

Should you have any queries regarding the charges please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Dad Joke Friday Competition

Our final entry in the competition:

I ate a kids meal at McDonald’s today. His mum got really angry.

We will be having a vote at the end of year for the best Dad joke with the winner receiving a Bunnings gift voucher. Are you going to be the punniest Dad at Scarborough Primary?

Interm Swimming Lessons

A parent information and consent form for interm swimming lessons will be coming home today with all students. Lessons will commence on Monday 7 December and run through to Thursday 17 December for Pre-primary to Year 6 students.

Please complete the permission form and return it to the office with payment by Thursday 3 December. Should you require another copy of the permission form it can be downloaded from the school website - Permission Form Interm Swimming.
