Jamberoo Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Week 7 Newsletter 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

The students and staff of Jamberoo Public School were faced with an extremely difficult decision today: Who to elect as school captain for 2023?

There were 9 extremely talented and well-spoken Year Five candidates who today did themselves and their families proud by presenting high quality speeches that showcased their abilities as potential future leaders. The school is excited to count the votes and announce the 2023 school leaders in the very near future.

Last Friday 18th November the wonderful students of Wombarra and Birrahlee attended a fun and exciting excursion at Minnamurra Rainforest. All of the students were extremely well behaved and very much enjoyed learning about the intriguing flora and fauna that make up a rainforest ecosystem.

Blue Incident Slips

As part of the school’s welfare policy, teachers use a ‘blue slip’ which is used to record information about an incident in the playground or the classroom. The incident slip allows all staff members to accurately document types of offences that have occurred eg fighting, swearing, teasing and the area in which the incident has transpired. It also provides teachers with a section to record details of the event and include witnesses who may have been present.

Any student who has received a blue slip will have the information recorded on our Sentral welfare system, unless the student is found to have not misbehaved after the incident has been investigated. For minor incidents, the teacher will deal directly with the behaviour and consequence. Any incidents that require further action will be dealt with by the principal. The purpose of the blue slip is to keep accurate records of all incidents within the school and to ensure consistency in management of negative student behaviours.

Receiving a blue slip does not mean that a child will automatically receive a reflection. Consequences, determined by the principal, may include a verbal warning or reflection during second half of lunch. If a child is given a reflection, a parent is contacted by telephone and the student completes a reflection sheet with the principal. The reflection sheet provides the student an opportunity to reflect on the incident and develop strategies to cope in future situations. The reflection sheet is then sent home and signed by the parent(s).

Fun Day

The whole school is excited that this year the awesome students of Jamberoo will be heading off to Hoyts at Warrawong to enjoy a movie on Thursday 15th December.

Students in Kindergarten to Year 2 will be watching Lyle Lyle Crocodile.

The students in Years 3 to 6 will be watching Blueback.

Fun Day will be a well-deserved reward for our wonderful students who have worked so hard throughout 2022. The cost of the day is ‘free’. Transport and movie ticket will be covered. The students will just need to bring their lunch, recess and drink with them. Upon returning to school, a free sausage sizzle, drink and ice block will be provided for the students.

A permission note for parents/carers has now been enabled home on Operoo. Please complete the permission form at your earliest convenience so we have a clear indication of the number of students who will be attending Fun Day.

Gold Day

All students who have achieved gold this year will be rewarded for their achievements through an afternoon tea with the principal on Thursday 8th December. This will be conducted at recess and will involve all the students who have achieved Gold in 2022. Please ensure that your child has submitted their awards by Monday 4th December so the school has a clear indication of how many students will be attending.

Next year, we plan on organising many morning teas with the principal as students achieve Gold throughout the course of the year. Each child who receives Gold will have a morning tea with the principal in 2023 during the term that they reach Gold. For example, if your child achieves Gold at the beginning of Term Three, they will celebrate the achievement halfway through Term Three with a small group of students who have also reached Gold.

The school very much looks forward to celebrating the amazing achievements of our students now and into the future.

Communication Survey

The school is proactive in requesting feedback from our school community regarding all aspects of school life at Jamberoo Public School. This term, we will be actively seeking the school community’s opinions in these key areas:

· What is the school doing well and where can we improve?

· Communication

· Reporting student achievement

In an effort to gauge the effectiveness of Jamberoo Public School's level of communication with parents/guardians - we need you to please complete the following survey. All feedback provided will be evaluated and analysed and will assist in future whole school planning. Please find a link below to the second survey of the term – Jamberoo Public School Communication Survey 2022: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSewvx3PORWevMGuz1j0Ap7y8AZcVxzY1yPdFEeOusIhbHRosA/viewform?usp=sf_link

It would be greatly appreciated if responses could be provided on or before close of business tomorrow. Thank you everyone in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts on the school’s communication systems.

ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools)

The maths assessment was completed last term. The results achieved by Jamberoo students were very pleasing. The school had 10 participants from Years 2 to 6. Of those participants, we had six credits and four participation awards.

Student Enrolments 2023

If you, or anyone else you know, is planning to enrol children at Jamberoo Public School in 2023 it is vital that you contact the school as soon as possible to confirm the enrolment(s). Alternatively, if you know that in 2023 you will be relocating from Jamberoo and your child/children will not be enrolling at the school it is very important that you make this known to us, so we have an accurate picture of student numbers for next year. Your cooperation and communication in this matter is very much appreciated.

Presentation Day

A reminder that our annual Presentation Day will be on Friday 9th December in our school hall. The ceremony will commence at 9:30am and will conclude at approximately 11:30am. All parents and families are welcome.
