Throughout the years, Cowaramup Primary School has been characterised by high quality teaching and support staff who have set high literacy and numeracy standards, resulting in excellent academic achievement and progress.

From the Principals Desk

From the Principal

Thank you to all parents and staff in keeping students in their school routines and helping to ensure that students remain anxiety free.

Each week we receive three (3) updates from the Department of Education on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday and daily from other sources.  From the advice given, schools are remaining open but we have curtailed large school events and enhanced health and hygiene routines.  For those that are choosing to keep their children at home, we are not sending any school work packages home with them.

It is important that if your child is sick, that you keep them at home.  This is for the benefit of everyone within our community.  Please do not leave the task of deciding whether a student is well or not to school staff.

If there comes a time when we have a case of COVID-19 within our school population, we would close our school temporarily while assessment and tracing of exposure is conducted.  A school clean would then be carried out to ensure school is safe for students and staff to return.

For those that would like to know more I have included the link to the latest update provided to the school from the Department of Education.

In these difficult times I know that the ‘Cowaramup Way’ of always supporting and helping each other will get us through this.

Schools Solar Challenge - Cowaramup takes 1st place in the South West Division

Cowaramup Primary School scoops the South West Division of the Schools Solar Challenge for 2020.  Congratulations to Ethan Semenow, Kai Gullan  and Ella Lilford who took out the winning position at the recent event held in Bunbury.

Developed in partnership with the Science Teachers' Association of WA (STAWA) the challenge is open to years 6 and 8 students across Western Australia.  Students are tasked with building their own model solar powered cars before they put their knowledge to the test in a fun race against neighbouring schools.

This is the 2nd year running that Cowaramup has won the South West Championships.  Well done to Mrs Hopkins and the Year 6 students.

Light sources and shadows

Rooms 7 and 11 have been learning about light sources and its shadow.  The lessons have been very engaging and the opportunity to explore has been endless!  All students are using the link from Science to STEM to create a stop motion app to feature shadows.  They will be featured on the class seesaw app soon.

HARMONY DAY - Friday 27 March

Harmony Day is a day to celebrate multiculturalism and promote diversity and acceptance of other cultures.  Australia is one of the most successful multicultural countries in the world and we want to celebrate this and work to maintain it.  It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians regardless of cultural or linguistic background.

To celebrate the colourfulness of our diversity, we encourage all students to wear their faction shirts and colour their hair bright colours  (Note: Hats will need to be worn for recess and lunch so colour is good but not so much 'crazy hair').

Most importantly, bring in a gold coin donation (or more!) to help those less fortunate.

Head lice

Head lice are tiny insect parasites that live on your head and feed on your scalp.  Head lice are spread by head-to-head contact with another person who has head lice.  This kind of contact includes doing group work, playing, or hugging.

Tips for preventing head lice

•Check your child’s hair regularly for head lice and eggs (‘nits’).  Use a metal fine tooth ‘nit’ comb and plenty of hair conditioner applied to the dry hair, to make the task easier and more effective. To help children sit still for this, offer distracting activities, e.g. play a favourite video, provide games, iPad apps, offer a head massage.

•Tie long hair back. Braid long hair and/or put it up if possible.

•Consider applying hair gel or mousse. These do not prevent or repel lice but may help to keep stray hair strands from contact with other heads.

•Avoid sharing combs or brushes.

•Remind your child to avoid head-to-head contact with other children, e.g. when working at the computer with others, or when playing, or hugging.

If your child has head lice please notify the teacher.
