Pupil Free Day - Monday 30th November

From the Principal

Dear Parents & Caregivers,

Chris Gent has returned from her SAPSASA State Softball team competition, after completing her coaching commitment last week where her team came back with a medal being undefeated in the competition.

Our new Reception students completed their long transition visit on Thursday this week and will finish their transition visits next week.

Dyslexia friendly books have been purchased in the library. These books are written in a particular font, size, spacing between lines and buff coloured paper and are easily identified with a sticker. These books are useful for all children who struggle with reading, not just those with dyslexia. The collection contains a number of high interest and low literacy books. If you require assistance to support your child with selecting text Hajnalka or Maureen are available in the library between 8:30 am and 9:15 am every morning.

T12 participated in the Olympic Unleashed Online program through a zoom session with Laura Hingston. This session was both informative and enjoyable for the students who were able to ask many questions and gain an insight into goal setting and resilience.

We will be participating in the ‘Shoeboxes for Love’ program again this year. However, this year, due to COVID-19, we will be seeking donations of items to place into shoeboxes, rather than seeking shoeboxes already made up. A casual day will be held on Friday 27th November. The funds raised from the casual day will go towards purchasing items to make up shoeboxes.

Kind Regards,

Sharon Willoughby

Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day

Wednesday 11th November was Remembrance Day, where all of students paused for one minute’s silence at 11.00 am. The Campus SLT students worked with Hajnalka Molloy and prepared a ceremony which our students watched via zoom in their classrooms. Poppies were made and placed in the Memorial Garden throughout the morning. T15 made a wreath using fresh flora and fauna from local plants with Lauren Hood’s mum.

SAPSASA Cricket

On Friday 6th November of week 4, the Thiele SAPSASA cricket team played in their second round of the statewide schools' competition. Thiele hosted the game against Aldgate Primary School. The boys opened the bowling, Milan catching three players out, Dale and Kushal running a player out and Zac, Peter, and Dale bowling a player out each. Ending the innings 7/73. In the second innings Thiele was off to a good start, Aldgate was a good bowling side. Unfortunately, we had a few early outs that set the tone for the rest of the game. Resulting in a final score of all out for 52.

Aberfoyle Park High School - Year 7 Transition

A group of year 7 students have been visiting Aberfoyle Park High School for extra transition visits before the APHS transition day on Thursday, 3rd December. The students visited on Thursday 5th  November where they toured the students reception area, big and little gyms, student support room, the new STEM building including the tech and home ec areas, Sally Wilson’s class and support room which can be accessed for additional lesson support and is opened at lunchtimes for students to use. On Monday, 10th November Roslyn and Matt, the PCW from APHS met with the students in our Interoception Room and on Tuesday, 24th November at 9:00am the students will have another tour of the Aberfoyle Park High School before the APHS transition day.

Campus Sport Presentations

On Friday, 23rd October Campus students and parents celebrated the end of the winter sport season. Teams played in friendly Parent vs Students matches and held team presentations. This twilight event was a huge success, we had Expressobeatz provide a BBQ, soft drinks, and coffee for the parents. It was great to see the competitiveness coming through from the parents and the students with some great game results.

Thank you again to our parent volunteers who held a coaching role or team manager, teams simply cannot operate without you. This year was particularly challenging with Covid-19, the sanitising, social distancing, and the condensed and very busy season. You volunteered your time for trainings and games and for that Campus is grateful and so are the students.

Campus Performing Arts

Campus Music Update

Despite the COVID-19 restrictions through our Specialist Campus Music program Rachel Baverstock and Ally Cunningham have provided these wonderful learning experiences for our students

·         Senior Choir

Senior Choir enjoyed a fabulous ‘movie event’ to celebrate and sing their repertoire with other schools. They have also performed at Thiele Assembly.

·         Junior Choir

The Thiele Junior Choir students also performed at a Thiele assembly. Pilgrim and Nativity Junior Choir are recording their favourite song and the video will be uploaded to our Performing Arts blog for families and classes to enjoy.

·         Combined Choirs

As per previous years, from Week 5 onwards the Senior and Junior Choir students will have the opportunity to participate in our end-of-year ‘Christmas Choir’, which will run in Junior Choir time. As we will not be able to visit the local Retirement Villages or other community performance opportunities, we will do a video which will be shared on the Performing Arts blog for families/classes and sent to the Retirement Village for residents to enjoy. The Senior Choir timeslot will be used to film individual and small-group choir students and to edit/produce the video, as well as to edit/produce videos for Troupe and Band.

·         Troupe

We have been rehearsing in individual school ‘micro troupes’ this year, these groups have been given the following options: to perform a completed piece at their own school assembly, to record a completed piece to share via the Performing Arts blog or work on choreography skills in support of other groups and/or as a basis for an ‘own composition’ piece.

·         Drama Club

Drama Club are rehearsing and filming small-group skits throughout the term which will be made into a movie. The movie will be shared with classes towards the end of term by Lauren Hood.

·         Band

Campus Band students will be recorded playing one of their repertoire pieces and a photo montage will be collated of rehearsals (including individual students and small groups practicing during these rehearsals). The final piece will be uploaded to the blog to be shared with families and classes.
