St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 9 (16 September, 2022)

Dear St Mary's School Community

Values in Focus: Sportsmanship

We play fairly for the enjoyment of all and encourage others to do their best.

Learning Journeys

It was lovely to see so many families join in the Learning Journeys on Tuesday night.  The students enjoyed imparting their knowledge and the pride on the parents’ faces was wonderful to see.  A big thank you to the teachers for all their hard work and preparation and of course to the students for all the learning that they have achieved this term.

Interschool Athletics

Congratulations to all the students that represented St Mary's at the Interschool Carnival yesterday!  Despite the very windy conditions - our students gave it their best and showed determination, spirit and sportsmanship, to be the shield winners!  A big thank you to all the St Mary's parents that were able to help out, the staff (Mrs Crees, Mrs Kermode, Mrs Riethmuller, Mrs Jefferys and Miss Walsh) and of course to our wonderful students.  Thank you also goes to Merredin College for providing us with some healthy competition and for hosting the Carnival.  Results from the Carnival will be published in next week's Newsletter.

St Mary's Day

As a school we celebrated St Mary’s Day with a Liturgy in the school hall and then the students participated in team building activities in their factions. Today’s celebrations were very special because our school hall was officially named the St Joseph’s Hall. The students learnt that the school hall was originally called the Church of Immaculate Conception and was located on Coronation Street where it stood from 1914 to 1926. In 1927 the church was moved from Coronation Street to its present location and served as the parish church until 1973, when the new church was built. St Mary’s School was originally known as St Joseph’s School but when the new church was built the school was renamed St Mary’s School, so that it had the same name as the new parish church.

Emmett’s Memorial

A reminder that all St Mary’s families are welcome to join us for the memorial for Emmett Tayler on Monday, 19 September at 10.15am.  This will be held in the Nature Playground.

Colour Run

We have the P&F Colour Run next Friday, 23 September and we welcome all families joining us for this fun (and messy) way to end the term.  Students are to wear a bottom of their liking, a white top and sneakers.  Once the Run is over, parents are asked to take their children home, those students who will be going on the bus are asked to bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag for their dirty clothing.  The Pre-primary assembly will take place at 12.00pm and this will be followed by a free sausage sizzle lunch (please remember to place your orders).  Once the children are dismissed for lunch, parents are welcome to join their children in the playground prior to the start of the Colour Run, which will be at 1.15pm.

Colour Run Timetable:

Pre-primary Assembly:  12.00pm in the Undercover Area

Free Sausage Sizzle Lunch:  12.30/12.40pm

Lunch - Play Time (Parents are welcome to join their children):  12.55pm

Colour Run:  1.15pm on the Oval

2023

To ensure that we make the right decisions in relation to staffing and the split classes for next year, please advise the school (by emailing me directly at adriana.coniglio@cewa.edu.au) if your child/children will not be returning to St Mary’s in 2023.  This doesn’t apply to current Year Six students.

CPPA Conference

I will be attending the CPPA Conference next week.  Mrs Riethmuller will be responsible for the school in my absence.

National Public Holiday

As you will be aware, next Thursday 22 September is a public holiday to mark the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.  Therefore, St Mary’s School will be closed.  We will be back on Friday for the Colour Run!

Welcome

We welcome the Anderson Family (Alice - PK) and the Parkin Family (Seth - Year 4 and Amelia - Year 6)  to the St Mary's School Community.  We hope that your time with us is filled with happy memories.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.
