Students leading the way...

Our journey of facilitating authentic student voice and supporting student agency throughout the school has already commenced, with the new-look ministry this year.

Our STEM ministers, Zac and Jack, have brought the 'International Day of Women and Girls in Science', which was celebrated on Saturday 11 February, to the attention of our students and community at assembly today, with the support of the STEM Committee teachers, Ms Loxton, Ms Withers and Mr Elix.

Find out all about it further down in this issue of the Pigeon Post!

Balmain Public School children are expected to wear full school uniform, including a school hat, every day. All children are required to wear full school uniform when representing the school on excursions, at sporting events or at cultural activities.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L)

What is 'Positive Behaviour for Learning'?

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) is an evidence-based framework that brings together the whole-school community to contribute to developing a positive, safe and supportive learning culture. The framework assists schools to improve social, emotional, behavioural and academic outcomes for children and young people.

When PB4L is implemented well, teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and classroom instruction. Students and staff benefit from:

  • reduced inappropriate behaviour
  • increased time focused on instruction
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • support for teachers to teach, model and respond effectively to student need
  • a predictable learning environment where staff and students know what is expected to deliver effective practices that can be sustained over time

When things go wrong...

Student Leadership

On Saturday the 11th of February it was The International Day of Women and Girls in Science. At this week's assembly we celebrated this by inviting 7 wonderful mothers of children in our community to answer some questions asked by Zac and Jack, the current STEM Ministers. A massive thanks to Suchi, an energy technology strategist, Tracy, a computer programmer, Crissy, a biomedical engineer, Nuala, an architect, Feifei, an app developer, Amy, who works in data strategy and governance and last but not least Claire an environmental and climate change lawyer. Afterwards, we let some kids in stage 3 ask some questions to each of the parents about their jobs, their path to where they are now and how science, technology, engineering and math are all incorporated into their jobs. by Jack & Zac (STEM portfolio ministers)

**BADGES - BPS has a number of students throughout the school wearing badges to indicate their leadership role/s. We know that our students wear their badges with pride, however, sometimes badges can be lost. A replacement badge can be organised, however, will cost $15 each (which is what the school pays for manufacture).**

SPOTLIGHT ON...

3/4 BIGOLI!!!!!

In 3/4 Bigoli, we read 'Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley'. It is a book about friendship. There are 2 characters, Pearl Barley and Charlie Parsley. They were complete opposites' but also friends! Showing that differences don’t matter.

Friendship is topic our class made movies on. We made short movies on iMovie, it took two weeks and we all had fun acting, filming and editing. By Tristan & Miles

Our movie was about one girl trying to make friends and she kept trying until this whole group wanted to be her friend.

When we made the movie, Mia was very camera shy! But she finally warmed up and went in the movie. By Ivy & Mia
