From the Principal

It is hard to believe we are in week 7 already the students are travelling along very nicely with our business as usual approach. We had a very successful day on  Friday 14th August for our Muscular Dystrophy fundraiser and would like to thank everyone for the hard work towards fund raising for this very worthy event. The students are very busy this term planning and practicing for our very first virtual concert! Staff have been refining their Sounds Write training this term, all participating in the Master Class Webinars via Webex and critiquing our action plan and what the Sounds Write program  looks like for our HSS students. We also have single use masks available at school if students would like to wear them.

Cheers

Kylie Carter

Principal

Indigenous Literacy Day

All our student will be participating next Wednesday in the Indigenous Literacy Day.  For our students learning from home simply go to the website: www.indigenousliteracyfoundation.org.au/indigenous-literacy-day to view the celebrations.

We are excited to invite you to our national, virtual Youtube Live Premiere event at 12.30pm on Wednesday 2 September for a celebration of Indigenous language and literacy. In previous years, this celebration has taken place at Sydney Opera House with children from remote communities, local schools, ILF ambassadors and supporters. This year, due to COVID-19, it is open for the first time to everyone - Australia-wide!

Indigenous Literacy Day - YouTube Live Premiere, 12.30pm (AEST)

Our 45 minute celebratory event will go live on Youtube at 12.30pm. This fast-paced, highly visual celebration is designed to engage the nation in the value of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' first languages. ILF Ambassadors, Jessica Mauboy will sing an Australian favourite and Anita Heiss, Andy Griffiths, Alison Lester, Shelley Ware and ILF co-Patron June Oscar AO will be joined by kids and community members - from Tiwi Islands and Jilkminggan in the Northern Territory and Bidyadanga in Western Australia - sharing delightful stories and the value of language. (information taken directly from the website).

Primary and Early Learners: Indigenous Literacy Day, 2pm (AEST) Recommended for students aged 3-11 years.

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation invites primary schools, libraries and early education centres to join a special Indigenous Literacy Day online event designed for children 3-11 years of age. ILF ambassador Jessica Mauboy will sing The Barramundi Song in two Indigenous languages – Tiwi and Mangarrayi, as well as English. Hosted by Indigenous author and performer Gregg Dreise and NITV presenter Natalie Ahmat, this event gives younger audiences a celebratory experience of Indigenous language and literacy. There is even a sneaky, cheeky visit by children’s author Andy Griffiths! (information taken directly from the website).

Hampden Specialist School Spectacular

Our students have been very busy rehearsing, script writing, filming, painting, and making costumes to name a few aspects of our very first Hampden Specialist School Spectacular! This much anticipated event will be available for viewing via our Skoolbag app either on phone or computer on Thursday 17th September.
