St Mary's Bulletin

Term 1 - Week 10 (9 April, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Easter

Easter will be a little different for all of us this year. With school and church prayer services and masses not occurring, it is important that as a family we spend time in prayer together, especially on during the events of Holy Week. Please continue to pray for all those who are directly affected by the coronavirus, that they make a full recovery, pray for all of our wonderful healthcare workers, who are providing such an invaluable service to the community, pray for our leaders to give them the wisdom to make important decisions and pray for each other as we adjust to a different way of living in our families and community.  Regardless of what Easter looks like for your family this year I hope that you all stay safe and healthy.

End of Term

As we end a very different Term One, I just want to thank the entire St Mary’s Community (staff, students and parents) for all their support, hard work and flexibility in what has seemed like an endless term.  I found the reflection below recently and it really struck a chord with me.  I wish everyone a restful and relaxing holiday and I look forward to welcoming everyone back in Term Two, even if it is virtually!

Term Two

The official commencement date for Term Two is Wednesday, 28 April as Monday is a public holiday and Tuesday is a designated Pupil Free Day.  An email went home yesterday to all families in regard to remote learning and the expectations for parents and students. Remote Learning will be the mode of teaching and learning when we return to school.  Please ensure that you have read the email and the attachments and are aware of what is expected.

Holiday Contact

I understand that the circumstances surrounding the school holidays are vastly different to normal; that being the case, if families need to get in urgent contact with me, I will be checking emails regularly throughout each day and will be in-touch asap if you need to speak with me.

ANZAC Day

The Merredin Shire dawn service will be live streamed via the Merredin Shire Facebook page.  You will need to monitor the page or like the page for a notification of when the service starts and you can watch it from home. Please note that this could change depending on further restrictions and Merredin Shire will advise accordingly.  St Mary’s School will have a wreath laid on our behalf during the service.

Term Two Calendar

You will shortly be receiving a copy of the Term Two calendar – the first five weeks have been left blank as students will be learning remotely.  The second half of the calendar will be edited once there is some clarity about schooling arrangements for the second half of Term Two.

Congratulations

Mrs Riethmuller has been appointed by the Executve Director of CEWA, Dr Debra Sayce as the short-term principal of St Joseph’s Southern Cross for Weeks One to Five of Term Two.  The current principal, Mrs Rika Andres, has been appointed as principal of Loreto Nedlands and her replacement is not able to commence until Week Six of Term Two.  Mrs Riethmuller was exemplar in the role in 2019 and so was the obvious choice for this role in 2020.  We wish Mrs Riethmuller all the very best of luck in her latest leadership opportunity and we look forward to welcoming her back in the second half of Term Two.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio
