Dear Parents/Carers,
Term 3
We have had a great start to Term 3. So many things going on at Canley Vale already and we are only in Week 2. We have also welcomed 10 new students and their families to Canley Vale over the last two weeks.
PBL Launch
We launched our Positive Behaviour for Learning last week at our morning assembly. All classes have been working on awareness and understanding of PBL and their class displays of Gus the Goanna. Thank you to the parents and carers who were able to stay for the parent workshop after the picnic lunch to learn more about PBL at Canley Vale Public School.
Our assembly next week for Education Week will be held on Thursday morning at 8:50am and we will announce Student of the Month class winners for July. The focus for July is Empathy.
Education Week (1-5 August)
Next week is Education Week. The theme for this year is ‘Creating Futures’. A flyer was sent out last week outlining our activities.
Our Education Week assembly will be held on Thursday 4 August at 8:50am in Wali. Parents and carers are welcome to attend the assembly. There will be student work displayed in the hall and we will also send out a video link for parents/carers who are unable to visit the school and view the work. Due to COVID safe measures we are not having open classrooms this year.
As part of our Education Week celebrations Kindergarten will celebrate 100 days of learning on Monday 1 August and are dressing up as if they are 100 years old. We look forward to seeing some of our youngest students looking very old.
CVPS has the annual Book Fair running at the moment. All students have taken home a flyer with some sample book titles. Each class has a scheduled time to visit the fair and are able to purchase items. If you would like your child to purchase a book they need to take their money in on the day they visit the fair. The last day of Book Fair is Tuesday 2 August during our Education Week celebrations.
COVID cases
We have returned to Term 3 with a few COVID positive cases that have been reported. We thank families for being vigilant in testing when their child or children have had symptoms. Please keep your children home from school and continue to test using RAT kits if your child has symptoms. Our staff are also testing and staying home if they have symptoms. We are all in this together, keeping each other safe.
We have sent out RAT kits to most students. We are waiting on our next delivery and will then send more home to our older students.
2023 Enrolments
We are continuing to take enrolment applications for 2023 for both Preschool and Kindergarten. If you know of any families with children ready to start Preschool and/or Kindergarten next year please let them know to make contact with our school office or alternatively they can apply online.
Excursions
This week we had our Year 4 students visit Kurnell over three days. They were extremely lucky with the weather. There will be more excursions coming up over the next two school terms. We will also have Swimming Scheme being offered to students in Years 2-6 in Term 4. More details will be available soon for the intensive learn to swim program. We were lucky to secure November for our Swim School which is a warmer time of year for swimming.
If at any time families are experiencing financial difficulty when payments are due for excursions or events please contact the school or CLOs to discuss your options. The school has some financial support available for student assistance to help out in situations of need.
Breakfast Club has Started
Our Breakfast Club has started this week. Thank you to our staff who have volunteered each morning to ensure we have breakfast available for the students. Breakfast is free of charge to all students. There is toast with a spread and cereal and juice. Breakfast is served from the SaCC room.
Kind regards,
Margaret Creagh
Principal
