Principal's Message

Kindergarten Orientation

Last week we welcomed our 2023 Kindergarten students and their families for their first Orientation Visit.   The children were all smiles and very excited to have a taste of what school feels like and meet new friends who will be starting school also next year.  Whilst students settled in to some fun activities in the classroom, Mrs Gillard met with parents in small groups providing them with valuable information regarding what to expect during their child’s year in Kindergarten and providing an opportunity for parents to get to know each other and enjoy a coffee.

Our students will enjoy 2 further Orientation visits on Thursday 17 November and Thursday 1 December whilst parents and carers enjoy parent workshops which includes opportunities to attend presentations from a range of groups including our P & C, school office team, OOSH and Scripture and Ethics teachers in our school hall together with an information session covering strategies for a successful transition to school. Research tells us that children who experience a positive transition into their new environment are likely to be happy at school and continue to improve their social and academic skills.

Student movements 2023

Thank you to those families that contacted us recently to let us know that your child will be leaving or moving to another school in 2023. If any other families learn between now and the end of the year that your child will need to move, we would appreciate you letting us know early, as it influences our enrolment and therefore our class structures and 2023 planning. The best way to notify us of a move, is simply to email the office.

Colour Run

Our rescheduled P & C Colour Run will be held Friday 25 November. Notes were emailed home to all students with full details. Whilst there is no cost for students to participate, permission is required again due to the change of date.  Please ensure you provide consent online prior to Friday 18 Nonvember.  If you have not received the permission note for this event, please speak to the staff in the office so we can ensure we have your correct details.

Parents and carers are invited to join us for this fun  event commencing at 1.45 pm.

Lambton’s Got Talent

Our annual Lambton’s Got Talent Final took place on Friday. As always, what an event….. As a school, we are very proud to be able to provide students with the opportunity to participate in this event each year and it is just magical to see our students shine on stage. We are so proud of all of our finalists for doing such an amazing job on Friday, but also of all the other students who practised and auditioned along the way.

Today it is also fitting to acknowledge the work of the staff who have made this event possible this year. They have given their own time to plan the event, hold auditions, support students with practices and numerous other jobs that come with the organisation of such an event. I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Teresa Buckingham, Teegan Jones, Shannon O’Connor and Jamie Gillard for all of your work.

Have a good week.

Kristen Saunders (Relieving Principal)

SRC Term 4 Initiatives

This term the 2 focus areas for our SRC are as follows:

Improving our School Composting!

  • Each SRC student will recycle a container to use as the class compost bin and encourage their class to compost the food scraps they throw out each day.
  • There is a roster for our SRC students to turn our school compost each week. This was created by Acacia the 5L SRC representative.
  • By doing this, it will reduce the amount of waste going into the garbage bins in our classrooms.

A Starlight Foundation Fundraiser!

  • Out of uniform day to raise money for the Starlight Children's Foundation at the John Hunter Hospital.
  • Friday 18th November (Week 6)
  • Gold coin donation

Why the Starlight Foundation - because of the positive impact that they have on children.

Fun and play are essential to every childhood. When serious illness takes that happiness away, Starlight is still there.

Starlight gives sick kids the fun and happiness that has a lasting positive impact on their lives.

Here's how Starlight's programs make a difference:

  • Sick kids are distracted from their illness, pain and treatment
  • Sick kids feel happier and more in control
  • Sick kids can better manage their pain
  • Sick kids feel less anxious about hospital and treatment
  • Sick kids have an increased sense of wellbeing

Starlight's serious about fun because they see the impact it creates on kids in hospitals and communities across the country every day. When you give to Starlight, you're helping sick kids feel happier, more confident and ready to face life's challenges.

Parenting Ideas

Growing up is generally seen as a straightforward march from infancy, early childhood, childhood, adolescence, post-adolescence to adulthood. In this week's article, Dr Michael Grose explains how childrens' life experiences contribute to their maturity, resilience and readiness for the wider world. We hope you enjoy this week's article.

Growing up is not straight forward!
