Principal`s Report

 Students arriving early to school

From time to time we have needed to remind students and families who arrive early to school to either sit in the designated areas near the canteen or go to breakfast club. At times some children are playing / running around the canteen area which is not appropriate.

Breakfast club begins at 8:15am and is supervised from this time. Students are not to be dropped off at Breakfast club before this time as our staff and volunteers are not on duty until this time. We are very lucky to have staff who volunteer their time to staff our breakfast club and children are to adhere to the rules in this area at all times or may be asked to leave.

ALL students should be seated in the canteen area before 8:30 am. Teachers are not on playground duty until this time.

School assets and construction of climbing equipment……

The construction of our new climbing equipment was planned for this week. As you may be able to tell it has not yet begun. Unfortunately there has been an issue with the contractor used from the Assets Group for the department of education which has caused a delay. We are waiting on a new start date. We will keep you informed.

Swimming Carnival

Our 2019 carnival was held on Monday the 25th of February and we had the perfect weather. Not only was the weather perfect but the students were wonderful. All of the students had a great time participating and giving it their best. Thank you to all of the stage 3 students who jumped in the pool to allow our less confident swimmers to have a go. A huge thank you to all of the parents who gave up their time to assist with timekeeping. The carnival would not have run as smoothly or been as enjoyable without all of the fabulous teachers who helped out.

Zone sports

Our local area, Tuggerah Lakes, has been holding zone try outs for a range of team sports. We have had a number of students represent Wyong Public School in these trials. All of those who tried out displayed respect, responsibility and excellence. One of our year six students,  was accepted in the combined Tuggerah Lakes Football (soccer) team and will be continuing to represent WPS. Congratulations to all of the students who put their best foot forward and tried out.

Congratulations to the following student who was successful at Tuggerah Lakes Zone soccer trials.

Isaac Kwon – Soccer

Congratulations to Isaac who made the zone team. He will now go on to further trials for Sydney North later this term. Excellent work Isaac.

Backyard League Program – years 1-6

Students in years 1-6 will begin a backyard league skills program with the National Rugby League development officers. All students in these grades will participate in skills and fitness sessions over the next 5 weeks until Wednesday April 3rd, 2019.

Mrs Shelley applied for and was successful in gaining a grant through the sports in schools program which has allowed this program to be funded. We also have funded the gymnastics program which normally runs later in the year.

 Yours sincerely,

Todd Miladinovic

Kindergarten Numeracy Parent Workshop

We will be holding an information afternoon for all Kindergarten parents interested in finding out more about numeracy and how mathematics is taught in the classroom. We will explain the recent Best Start Feedback and how best to support children to build their math skills at home.

The session will be held from 2.00 pm on Wednesday 20th March in the KB classroom. This would be a great opportunity to have any questions you have about mathematics answered by our teaching staff.

The session will be completed prior to Kindergarten students finishing school at 3.00 pm. Please message you child’s teacher to let them know you are interested in attending.

PBL 2019

Welcome Back to PBL 2019 at Wyong PS.The students have all come back into our fantastic PBL school.

For Parents of our wonderful Kindergartens, remarkable 5C and other new students who are lucky enough to join our school, we might kick off with explaining what PBL means and how it works The Wyong Way.

What is PBL?

PBL stands for Positive Behaviour for Learning. It is a system of actively teaching positive behaviour within our school.

We introduce a language of positive behaviour that all staff and students within our school use to teach, model and reinforce the positive behaviours that we love to see all students display at school, and indeed everywhere they are!

Our positive behaviours are group under three headings that sum up our Wyong Way positive behaviours and each heading has its own Avatar to help us remember the positive, Wyong Way to behave.

Our three heading are:

Respect, Responsibility and Excellence

And our helpful Avatars that were designed by our students in 2018 are:

Ellie Excellence,  Ricky Responsibility and Robbie Respect.

This year so far the students have discussed what Respect, Responsibility and Excellence mean and look like in our school and you can see some of their brilliant work on display in our office.

In week 5 the students looked at Rubbish and its Effect on the Environment and now, in Week 6, they are learning some way to Stay Cool when solving problems.

See you on the flip side,

The PBL team
