Dear Parents & Community Members,

As this Newsletter is distributed, realising we are almost half way through Term One is hard to reconcile.  That said, the amount of rich learning taking place is wonderful to witness and the fact that students are so engaged in their learning is an absolute credit to them all.  This shows me that they are making the most of their “super power” – if this has not been shared at home, please ask your child.  This “power” makes us who we are.

Student success can only be achieved with the professionalism and commitment of our staff.  This continues to be enhanced with ongoing professional learning relating to pedagogy (the science of teaching) and associated curriculum areas.  We look forward to being able to showcase student achievements at several events throughout the year, commencing with Parent / Teacher Interviews on the afternoon/evening of Wednesday, April 5.

Finally, my thanks to the members of our school community who have nominated for positions on the School Board.  There are four nominations for the two positions available, for a three-year term.

This will necessitate the School Board conducting an election for the vacant positions and it is very important that you vote.  Early next week, parents and carers will receive an email with a distinct code linked to the online election process.  Voting will close at 4.00pm on Monday, March 13.

Missing school?

Every day your child learns something new, so it’s important they attend school every day.

We know this is not always possible and they may miss a day occasionally.

Always let us know the reason why as soon as possible by submitting a Skoolbag eForm.  We can help your child catch up.

Parent / Teacher Interviews

Save the date!

Parent / Teacher interviews will be conducted in the last week of Term 1 on Wednesday, April 5th from 12.30pm

NAPLAN

A reminder to parents of Year 3 and 5 students that NAPLAN assessments take place from Wednesday, 15 March to Monday, 27 March which is weeks 7 to 9 of Term 1.

Assessments are given in reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation and numeracy.  This year, W.A. students will complete the assessments online, except for the Year 3 Writing assessment, which will still be completed on paper.

The NAPLAN brochure sent home earlier this term, to the Year 3s and 5s gives more information about NAPLAN. The NAPLAN assessments are one of the methods that schools use to determine the achievement of its students and the effectiveness of the academic program.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.
