2022 Term 4 Week 7

This week marks the the four week countdown to the end of the school year and the anticipation of Christmas and summer holidays.  The next twenty school days are jam-packed with many end of year events.

For Year 6 students it is their last term of primary school and they are now preparing to deliver a great tradition of hosting a Mini Fete for the enjoyment of students.  Mini Fete is a student only event. It is a special occasion where Year 6 organise and set up amazing stalls and activities where all students from Kindergarten to Year 5 can participate in fun events and win prizes.

With the sunshine and clear skies, our students have been enjoying outdoor play and games. Can I remind all parents and carers that every student must have a school hat to play outside. If your child needs a new hat, they can be purchased form the P&C  Uniform Shop. Orders are filled by our P&C volunteers on Tuesday before school, and given to students during the day.

Staff are busy preparing Semester 2 Student Reports and these reports will be released via the  Sentral Parent Portal on Wednesday 14 December as well as a paper version. Whilst reports are being compiled, students continue to participate in new learning activities and teachers encourage all students to continue to read each night and revise math concepts learnt in class.

Attendance

Our attendance data is reflecting a strong daily attendance for students at Melrose Park PS. This term we are averaging a whole school attendance rate of 90.6%. This is good, but we know we can be better.

Being at school, on time every day is what makes a difference. We encourage students to safely walk to school together with family or friends so that they can make an early start and be at school on time to play with friends and prepare for the day.  If late, parents are required to visit the office and sign their child into school.

PSSA

The Summer PSSA competition has now finished for the year. There will be no training on Thursday mornings.

We thank our teachers who have coached  t-ball, softball and volleyball teams and thank them for the extra time needed to train and organise games.

Thank you to our students who participated in teams and demonstrated outstanding sportmanship when out representing Melrose Park PS. Whilst teams did not win through to the final games, it  was wonderful to see and hear the enthusiasm for participating.

2023 Kindergarten

Our new Kinders for 2023 have been enjoying  the Kindergarten Transition. Our preschoolers have participated in four sessions so far and I must say, we can see the changes in independence, clear communication and understanding of school routines already. We know this  transition program makes a real difference to the successful start to school for our newest members of Melrose Park PS. Thank you to Miss Di Nicola and Mrs O'Neill for supporting the program and welcoming families into the school.

The last Transition activity will be to welcome our preschoolers at Assembly on Thursday 8 December.

Dance Concert

Our MPPS dance concert is coming up. The theme for this year's concert is "Summer". The dress rehearsal will be held on Monday 28th at 9:15am.

Students are to wear their school uniform and bring their costumes in a labelled bag with their name clearly written on each item.

The costumes will stay at school after the dress rehearsal, ready for the dance concert. Your class teacher will notify you of their costume requirements.

We would love to have you join us for the concert in Week 9.

The concert details are as follows;

Date: Monday December 5th

Time: 1:45pm

Presentation Day Assemblies

Presentation Day – Monday 12 December

Presentation Day is an annual event where we formally recognise the achievements of  all students for their commitment and efforts in learning throughout the year. We welcome all parents to attend this very special assembly.

Presentation Day will occur on Monday 12 December 2022.

Every student will receive an individual Acknowledgement Award with specific students from each class receiving a Book Prize for either Academic Excellence, Most Improved, Most Consistent and/or Citizenship.

This year we will hold presentations in our school hall for groups of classes at specific times (see below).  Parents are invited to join their class for Crunch n Sip (K-2) or afternoon break (3-5) at the end of their assembly.

As per Department regulations we must comply with the COVID Safety Plan. Masks are encouraged to be worn when indoors.

Each class presentation will be recorded for later viewing through the student’s SeeSaw account.

Thank you in anticipation to parents and carers for working with the Melrose Park PS to ensure that this event is both successful and safe for our community.

Christmas giving

This year Melrose Park OOSH will be collecting food donations and distributing it to the local community. We are partnering with Sydney Community Services and The Salvation army to help people in need during this Christmas Period.

We will be creating hampers for Sydney Community Services and doing a food collection for Salvation Army. Any help from anyone in the school community would be greatly appreciated.

Feel free to bring them down to the OOSH room before or after school.

We currently have Miss Sarah our nominated supervisor, she is currently working at OOSH until the end of the year from one of our other services. We have Miss Ash who is our 2ic who will be here every morning and afternoon.

The children have started Christmas craft with our conversation around our Christmas hampers we are going to create. We thank our families for the donations we have already received.

Our program is adapting and changing with the children’s current needs changing every day. We are always after feedback, so if you have any please feel free to share with us.
