Principal`s Report

Welcome to Week 4, Term 4.

We are almost half way through the Term, keep going strong. We hope this edition of the Newsletter finds you safe and well.

We have had yet another two action packed weeks here at Wyong Public, with lots of exciting things happening to keep your child engaged and having fun whilst learning.

Last fortnight we had the amazing Planetarium visit, leaving the students with a wealth of knowledge about all things Space in a fun and interactive way. We were also fortunate enough to have access to the Perform Education Virtual incursion as well.

We finished Week 2 with on a high by celebrating with our annual Book Parade. Teachers and students alike had fun channeling their favourite book character. Thanks to all that participated and made the day as amazing as it was.

As we progress into Term 4, we look forward now to welcoming Kindergarten of 2021 with the Leap into Learning Transition Program starting next Thursday, the 12th November. Please ensure all of your enrollment forms are completed prior to starting the transition program. Don’t hesitate to forward any questions to front office regarding this.

I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge World Teachers day that was on Friday the 30th October. We have amazing teachers here at Wyong, that have been particularly tested this year with COVID 19 and the unprecedented nature of online teaching. I think we can all agree that the way in which the teachers moved from face-to- face teaching, to an online platform and back again with such professionalism and ease should be congratulated. They are the safe place of nurturing and care when you cannot be, and bearers of great knowledge. We thank you teachers for all that you do to teach the generations of our future.

In regards to end of year activities like Presentation Day, the department of education has outlined end of term events for schools relating to Speech, Presentation Days and Farewell procedures. This will mean that our school presentation days will remain for students and staff only. The school does not have the space to cater for the advised guidelines outlined last week (4 sq m rule) in the hall to host parents / families. We apologise for any inconvenience and we do hope to provide some form of streaming for these events. Presentation Day for K-2 and 3-6 will be held in the hall.

Just a quick note reminder, if you are a family who are moving house / school over the 2020 holiday period we would appreciate being advised of this. Schools plan ahead based on student numbers, hence we would appreciate knowing if any families are moving.

Lastly,  This Wednesday our leaders will host a school service and the Captains Mia, Tevita and myself will attend the service at Wyong RSL.

This service will be for students and staff only.

It has been 102 years since the signing of an armistice, bringing an end to World War 1.

On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead.

In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the post-war for decades.

Looking forward to the second half of Term 4, which will see Presentation days, and reward days and year 6 farewell celebrations. Keep up the good work Wyong, showing Respect, Responsibility & Excellence at all times.

Rugby League Gala Day

Well finally our Stage 3 students were able to attend a sporting event in the local area, and what a day it was! We participated in a rugby league gala day that involved many schools from all over the Central Coast at Morry Breen Oval.

The girls began the day with a 45-minute clinic demonstrating the correct techniques in tackling and familiarising them with the rules of 9’s football.

The girls showed great determination, team work and used the day to develop the skills they had learnt. For a group of girls that had very little to no experience in the game of rugby league they were tough in their attitude and produced a gutsy effort every game. Bumps and bruises did not deter these girls and they were a credit to our school.

The girls played 3 games over the course of the day to finally reach the semi-finals.

The scores were as follows:

Blue Haven 34- Wyong 12

Wyong 22- Bateau Bay 18

Wyong 30- McKillop 22

Semi final

Umina 30- Wyong 6

A huge congratulations to the following girls who I feel have learnt so much not just about the game of rugby league but about themselves and what they can achieve.

Melina, Mia, Nevaeh, Kelisha, Jay, Olivia, Skye, Maddy, Katelyn and Elizabeth

Well done girls on a very successful day.

Mrs Freers

The boy’s team were represented by Paea T, Sione T, Leedrix O, Tolkien B, Leland K, Tevita T, Ryan W, Jet-James P, Riley D, Cash S, Tyler P and Jaxson K.

The boys showed outstanding form in the earlier games and went into the semi final clash as everyone’s favourite to win. Unfortunately, the heat and the demands of the long day got the better of them as they narrowly lost to Bateau Bay 18 points to 30.

The day was a great success as these young men finally got the opportunity to shine on the sporting field. I am proud of their efforts and I thank them for representing our school with pride.

Our earlier results are as follows…

St Johns 16 – Wyong 28

St Brendan’s 10 – Wyong 34

Mackillop 12 – Wyong 24

Rugby League Gala Day

Gala Day Touch Football

Wyong were fortunate enough to be involved in another gala day organised by the Tuggerah Lakes Zone in touch football last Friday. After heavy rain the night before the day wasn’t looking promising however it turned out to be a sunny day at EDSAAC South Bateau Bay and the fields were dry. 22 stage 3 students were involved in the boys and girl’s competition. Our teams played 3 games and were successful in reaching the finals in their Pool.

The boys had lost their round game to Brooke Ave but went on to successfully beat them convincingly in the final. Great job boys!

The girls played Erina Heights but unfortunately lost in the final to a very talented group of girls. Well done Wyong girls on a great effort.

Mr McGuinness and myself were very proud of the students and the way they represented our school. The students were keen to learn and listened to feedback about the way they played the game which was the reason for their success on the day.

Congratulations to the following students who represented our school in the touch football gala day. You were a pleasure to take and it was wonderful to witness some great skill from many of our players.

Boys team:

Jet James, Leedrix, Sasha, Leland, Cayden, Paea, Cash, Tolkein, Riley, Sione and Ryan.

Girls team

Kelisha, Melina, Katelyn, Mia, Nevaeh, Ferl, Elizabeth, Erica, Nicolla, Ahri and Alisha.

Kindergarten 2021 Enrolments

Enrolments for Kindergarten 2021 are now open. Please visit our office to pick up an enrolment form. If you know of any families or friends with children that will be due to start school next year, spread the word.

Our Leap into Learning Transition Program is scheduled to start in Term 4, commencing on Thursday the 12th November, 2020.Please ensure all enrollment forms are filled out prior to attending.

Any questions regarding enrollment please do not hesitate to contact the office, we will be happy to help.

Leap into Learning Transition Program

We have been advised by the Department of Education that Kinder Orientation programs can now go ahead with certain guidelines in place to cover Covid 19 regulations. This will mean some changes to our usual transition program. Please see these changes below so you are familiar with the protocols that will be in place.

All students attending the orientation must have a completed enrolment form, which has been reviewed by the school. This will include bringing certain documents to complete the enrolment process. Your child’s birth certificate, immunisation record and proof of address.

●     All parents and carers that attend, including students and staff are well and free of any flu-like symptoms.

●     Parents or carers who enter the school site must report to a designated drop-off and pick up area (SACC centre).

●        Parents and carers should not remain on site for longer than 10 minutes.

●        Physical distancing and hygiene guidelines will be adopted by our school.

●        Staggered start times will be used to avoid congestion and to avoid interaction between students attending the program and current students.

●        Staggered start times will limit the number of people on site and to prevent queuing.

●        Each parent must sign the external visitors form .

●        Parents and carers will not be allowed access to areas outside of the designated drop-off and collection points and should leave promptly at the conclusion of the event.

If your child is unable to attend the transition, transition videos have also been made by the Department of Education and our local SACC centre which are worthwhile viewing. Below is a link to a Kids Matter video that takes parents and carers through the transition process.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UcINGGuysBE&t=12s

There are a number of families that are yet to return their enrolment paperwork. Please complete this as soon as possible and return it to the office. Please contact our school office if you are unsure.

We look forward to starting this transition and getting to meet the Kindergarten class of 2021!
