Welcome to Week 4, Term 4.
We are almost half way through the Term, keep going strong. We hope this edition of the Newsletter finds you safe and well.
We have had yet another two action packed weeks here at Wyong Public, with lots of exciting things happening to keep your child engaged and having fun whilst learning.
Last fortnight we had the amazing Planetarium visit, leaving the students with a wealth of knowledge about all things Space in a fun and interactive way. We were also fortunate enough to have access to the Perform Education Virtual incursion as well.
We finished Week 2 with on a high by celebrating with our annual Book Parade. Teachers and students alike had fun channeling their favourite book character. Thanks to all that participated and made the day as amazing as it was.
As we progress into Term 4, we look forward now to welcoming Kindergarten of 2021 with the Leap into Learning Transition Program starting next Thursday, the 12th November. Please ensure all of your enrollment forms are completed prior to starting the transition program. Don’t hesitate to forward any questions to front office regarding this.
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge World Teachers day that was on Friday the 30th October. We have amazing teachers here at Wyong, that have been particularly tested this year with COVID 19 and the unprecedented nature of online teaching. I think we can all agree that the way in which the teachers moved from face-to- face teaching, to an online platform and back again with such professionalism and ease should be congratulated. They are the safe place of nurturing and care when you cannot be, and bearers of great knowledge. We thank you teachers for all that you do to teach the generations of our future.
In regards to end of year activities like Presentation Day, the department of education has outlined end of term events for schools relating to Speech, Presentation Days and Farewell procedures. This will mean that our school presentation days will remain for students and staff only. The school does not have the space to cater for the advised guidelines outlined last week (4 sq m rule) in the hall to host parents / families. We apologise for any inconvenience and we do hope to provide some form of streaming for these events. Presentation Day for K-2 and 3-6 will be held in the hall.
Just a quick note reminder, if you are a family who are moving house / school over the 2020 holiday period we would appreciate being advised of this. Schools plan ahead based on student numbers, hence we would appreciate knowing if any families are moving.
Lastly, This Wednesday our leaders will host a school service and the Captains Mia, Tevita and myself will attend the service at Wyong RSL.
This service will be for students and staff only.
It has been 102 years since the signing of an armistice, bringing an end to World War 1.
On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. From the summer of 1918, the five divisions of the Australian Corps had been at the forefront of the allied advance to victory. Beginning with their stunning success at the battle of Hamel in July, they helped to turn the tide of the war at Amiens in August, followed by the capture of Mont St Quentin and Pèronne, and the breaching of German defences at the Hindenburg Line in September. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead.
In the four years of the war more than 330,000 Australians had served overseas, and more than 60,000 of them had died. The effects of these losses cast a long shadow over the post-war for decades.
Looking forward to the second half of Term 4, which will see Presentation days, and reward days and year 6 farewell celebrations. Keep up the good work Wyong, showing Respect, Responsibility & Excellence at all times.
