Jamberoo Public School Newsletter

Term 4 Week 3 Newsletter 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

From the Principal

Dear Jamberoo Public School Community,

Week 3 has been a busy one, in particularly for our Year 3, 4 & 5 students. These students have completed their Term 4 check in assessments, which provides the school with invaluable student learning data in the areas of reading and numeracy. More details about the check in assessments are listed below:

·         Check in assessments are online assessments for students in Years 3 to 9. They are mapped to the NSW Syllabuses and National Literacy and Numeracy Progressions. There are two assessments: reading and numeracy.

·         Each assessment is designed to be quick and easy to administer, consisting of between 40 to 50 multiple choice questions.

·         Schools can access feedback soon after the completion of the assessment.

·         The assessment can supplement existing school practices to identify how students are performing in literacy and numeracy and to help teachers tailor their teaching more specifically to students.

Week 4 also promises to be a busy one. Students in Years One and Two will be heading to Kiama Leisure Centre each day to participate in Swim Scheme. It is a great opportunity for our younger students to improve their swimming skills, increase confidence in the water and refine their stroke development.

On Friday 4th November, Year 4 & 5 students from Walabi will be attending what promises to be an adventurous and fun excursion at the Lake Illawarra Foreshore. Fingers crossed it is a warm and sunny day.

World Teachers' Day

Tomorrow is World Teachers' Day and I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge every single one of the teachers at Jamberoo Public School and to recognise their relentless commitment to our students.

The last few years have been unprecedented and like no other in years gone by. Upon my return I have heard so many exceptional stories from students and their families about the lengths their teachers have gone to for them personally.

If you have the time on Friday, please don’t hesitate to send your child’s teacher a message on Class Dojo to show your appreciation.

Community Survey

The school is proactive in requesting feedback from our school community regarding all aspects of school life at Jamberoo Public School. This term, we will be actively seeking the school community’s opinions in these key areas:

·         What is the school doing well and where can we improve?

·         Communication

·         Reporting student achievement.

All feedback provided will be evaluated and analysed and will assist in future whole school planning. The first survey, school progress and where to next was sent on Monday 24th October on Class Dojo. Please find a link to the survey below:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe8rLa4C2FoCum7Mazop6usxT3pkFhMsN5QASf94Ei5aBy0Ew/viewform?usp=sf_link

It would be greatly appreciated if responses could be provided on or before close of business on Friday 4th November. Thank you everyone in advance for taking the time to share your thoughts on our wonderful school.

Newsletter Calendar

Please take the time to read over the Term Four calendar in today's newsletter. There are many important and exciting events coming up this term. At this stage, there are still some end of year activities that have not been confirmed. Keep a look out for the events to be added to the calendar in the near future.

Pre-School Visits

During Week 6, Monday 14th November – Friday 18th November, the school is very much looking forward to having our future Kindergarten students come up and visit us. The preschool children will be joining our students for lunch each day then they will join in with our fun lunch time activities. This provides our future enrolments the opportunity to orientate themselves with the school and develop relationships with our current students. We look forward to seeing the preschool children at our wonderful school in three weeks’ time.

Tell Them From Me Survey – Students in Years 4, 5 & 6

I am delighted that this term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in a Department of Education initiative: the Tell Them From Me student feedback survey. The survey measures factors that are known to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.

The survey is a great opportunity for our students to provide us with valuable and quick feedback on what they think about school life, how engaged they are with school and the different ways that teachers interact with them. Schools in Australia and around the world have used the Tell Them From Me survey to help improve how they do things at school.

More information about the survey is available at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/student-wellbeing/tell-them-from-me/information-for-parents-and-carers/your-childs-participation

I want to assure you that the survey is confidential. The survey is conducted online and will typically take less than 30 minutes to complete. It will be administered during school hours next week.

If you do not want your child or children to participate, please contact your child’s teacher via Class Dojo (Mr Ross, Mrs Kirby or Mrs McCormack) on or before Monday 31st October.
