During the final Year 12 Assembly earlier this week, our current College Captains announced and presented badges to our newly elected 2021 school leaders. Congratulations to our new College Captains, Dia Hutchinson and Brock Stephens, and Vice Captains Ruby James and Jasper Croot on their appointments. Thank you also to the other students who were nominated for these positions: Maddie Millington, Ryan Cole and James Loveday. Each of these students made an excellent account of themselves during the whole election process. They will all benefit tremendously from this valuable experience. Our school will once again be well placed under the leadership of this fine group of students.
This is the first time our College Captains have been announced prior to the traditional Presentation Night at the end of the school year. Due to COVID-19, we have been forced to consider alternative ways of acknowledging and celebrating student achievements and milestones like this. Plans are in place to conduct a number of individual class awards presentation ceremonies so that students can still be rewarded for their considerable efforts throughout this year. At this time, unfortunately, guidelines currently do not allow for parents to attend any of these presentations on-site. Further details about our end of year procedures will be conveyed to families through the newsletter in coming weeks.
The Respectful Relationship Values were Self Discipline and Service.
The weekly winners of these values were – Self Discipline - F/1 Kerber – Molly, 1/2 Smith – Lenny, 3/4 McDonald – Jack, 4/5 Jones – Zali and 6 Crouch – Jennifer. Service - F/1 Kerber – Phyo Phyo, 1/2 Smith – Sam, 3/4 McDonald – Jade, 4/5 Jones – Reece and 6 Crouch – Bronti. Congratulations to all students who were nominated.
The winner of the weekly canteen voucher was Tori.
On Thursday 5th of November, the Year 6 students presented their speeches to the class. Students had spent the previous two weeks working on their speeches. They researched their topic and had to persuade the audience for or against. Students then typed their speeches out onto palm cards and delivered their speech to the Year 6 Class. Speeches were between 2 – 3 minutes long. Students also filled out a peer feedback proforma. The criteria for the speeches consisted of Voice, Posture, Facial Expressions, Dictation, Eye Contact, Hook, Information and Conclusion summary.
Teacher Award winners were – Charlotte with the topic of ‘Why most animals should be kept in Zoos’. Corey with the topic of ‘Why smoking should be banned.’
Peer Award winner was Messi, with the topic of ‘Why you should put rubbish in the bin’.
Congratulations to all of the students for their amazing efforts.
Please find attached the Booklist for the 2021 students.
Please note that we are still working with Warrnambool Books but they are now called Campion Education Warrnambool and all booklists need to be ordered online.

On Monday the 16th of November, all students from Years 7-11 will be competing in a House Competition. This day has been introduced to create a recreational opportunity due to the disruptions of this year. Students will participate in one sport or activity for the day that they have signed up for. Activities on offer include Golf, Netball, Tennis, MasterChef, Walk-a-thon and Construction boss. These will be all-day activates at no cost. Please ensure that on the day students bring plenty of water, sun protection, food and any equipment (clubs, racquets) required. If students do not have equipment, they need to see Miss Tink or Mr Hedt please. Students will be allowed to dress in House colours for the day. Please ensure clothing suitable for their chosen activity.

Staying connected to our students, parents and wider school community has never been more important than it is now due to remote learning and the wider constraints of Stage 3 Restrictions. Nhill College has used Compass, our web page and the weekly newsletter to keep families associated with the school up to date with all of the events and activities that occur in and around the school each week. To help broaden exposure to the school at this time, we recently launched a trial of our own Facebook page. This page will be purely for promotion, publicity and to inform everyone of the upcoming events and happenings within the College. All notes, questions, concerns or communication to staff regarding students still need to be directed to the College via Compass or on (03) 5391 2111. To find our Facebook page, simply follow this link: https://www.facebook.com/nhillcollege/ or type Nhill College in the search function on Facebook. (Please be aware there is also an unofficial Nhill College facebook page that does not show the Nhill College logo).
Please like/follow the page and then you will be kept up-to-date with all of our posts. We appreciate your patience at this time as we trial a new method of communication.
If you are reading this, you obviously have access to the school newsletter. However, some families have asked how grandparents or community members can stay in touch with the school when they don't have access to Compass. The answer is that anyone can access the school's newsletter through the College website: www.nhillcollege.vic.edu.au. Please advise any family, friends or interested members of the wider community, that the newsletter is the main source of information from the school and that it is available to anyone who would like to read it. Spread the word!
Training has started on Thursdays at 5pm at Davis Park Nhill. All new and returning players welcome! We’d love to see some new faces at the nets and encourage any boys and girls who’d like to play in the under 14 or under 16.5 comps to come along for a look. For more info please contact Ash Dickinson on 0417587002.
