A Message from the Principal

Congratulations

Welcome to the end of a wonderful and busy Term 3. Congratulations to all students for your achievements and efforts over this term. I wish you and your families a wonderful break and look forward to a happy, healthy and productive Term 4 for all our staff, students and parents. Please stay safe over the holiday break and we will see you all on Monday 14th October.

Kindergarten 2020 Parent Information Night

Tonight we will be holding our annual Kindergarten parent information night. If you have a child starting school next year, please ensure you come along to gain valuable information about our upcoming orientation program and how you can best prepare your child for school. This will be held in the hall at 7pm. Thank you to our Kindergarten team for your organisation of this night.

NAPLAN

Today all students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be coming home with their NAPLAN results in sealed envelopes. Please take the time to read the information provided in the envelopes. NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress at a point in time.

Tell them From Me Survey – please complete

This Term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

Running this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 2nd September and 25th October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

Information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au.

To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/70hm

At present we have had only 27 responses, I urge all families to contribute as the information is invaluable in our school planning process. Thank you in advance for participating in this process.

Regional Athletics

Well done to all our students who participated in the Regional athletics carnival on Friday 13th September. A big congratulations to the following students who will be representing us at the State carnival next term: Miriam Gauld, Kalani Godinet Emily Hartland, Annabelle James and Isabella Muc.

Positive Stars Week 9

Well done to the following students on being Positive Stars in week 9. Levi, Aidan, Charlotte and Maliah in K Blue, Aidan B., Marli and Patrick B. in 3/4 Platinum. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait to see more students this week.

General Information

School Office Hours of Operation

Our school office hours are 8:30am to 3:15pm.

EFTPOS Payments can be made between 8:45am - 9:00am and 2:30pm - 3:00pm.

Student Absences

The Education Act requires that a reason is provided to the school within 5 days of the occurrence of a student absence.

If your child is absent from school please notify us via Skoolbag or drop a note/medical certificate in our secure letterbox on the outside of the office wall. Do not send absent notifications to the class teacher via Class Dojo.

Late Arrival/ Early Departure

All students who are late to school must come via the office to receive a late pass, which is then to be handed to their teacher.

If you are picking up your child early from school you must visit the office first to receive an early departure pass, which you then give to your child’s teacher.

 Toileting Accidents

If your child is prone to toileting accidents please ensure that spare underwear and school clothes are kept in their bags.

If your child does borrow clothes from our school please ensure the clothes are washed and promptly returned to the office.

Nut Free Recommendation

Due to severe allergies of some students at Hammondville Public School, we do recommend that parents not send their children to school with nut products, eg muesli bars, peanut butter, nutella etc.

P&C Payments

All payments to the P&C must be CASH ONLY and in a separate envelope to school payments.

Attendance / Absence

Did you know that if students miss as little as eight days in a school term, by the end of primary school they will have missed an entire year of education?

If you are experiencing difficulties with getting your kids to school, please let us know. You can speak to your child’s classroom teacher, an executive member, or even the front office staff about how we may assist you. Our aim is to fix attendance issues as soon as they arise.

Kindergarten Enrolments 2020

If you have a younger child who is due to start school next year and you have not yet enrolled them could you please contact the office as soon as possible. The sooner we know the number of children who are coming next year the better it is for our planning as the number of children in Kindergarten has a significant effect on the make-up of our classes and staffing across the school. Our information night for the parents of 2020 Kindergarten students is Monday 23rd September at 7pm in the school hall.

Enrolment Changes For 2020

Dear Parents/Carers,

Our school has increased enrolments to the point where we are reaching or exceeding a capacity to accommodate our students in permanent classrooms. The revised Department of Education Enrolment Policy implemented as of 22 July 2019, will have an impact on the manner in which we process non-local enrolments over coming years.

All students who reside within our local intake area will continue to be offered places at our school, however non-local enrolment applications can only be considered by schools that can accommodate new enrolments below their designated enrolment buffer level. A buffer is calculated by our school to allow the enrolment of local students who arrive throughout the year.

The impact of this requirement is that our school may not be able to enrol non-local students from 2020. To assist with the transition to this new requirement it has been agreed that non-local siblings of current students will be permitted to enrol in 2020.

As from 2021 the school may only be able to enrol local students.

The school will continue to have a non-local application process in place to prioritise any applications that may be considered exceptional circumstances or for any places that may become available if the school enrolment falls below the designated cap.

Please contact me if you wish to discuss these changes further.

Positive Behaviour for Learning News Week 10

Well done to all students who worked hard throughout Term 3 following our PBL values and for receiving hero tokens for positive behaviour. It is fantastic to see our token tower getting closer to our whole school reward.
