From the Principal

Hi All

Amongst other groups, OECD research clearly shows that one of the highest indicators of success in adult life for young people is self-efficacy. This plays out in education, work and the ups and downs of a modern day life.

Self-efficacy supports us as learners when things get tricky. A learner with a strong sense of self efficacy knows where their strengths are, knows where their areas to develop are and has the knowledge that learning is incremental. These are the people in the workplace that you see set career goals and seek out the knowledge, skills and understandings to get there. They are resilient, persistent and know that growth comes in smaller steps.

Developing self-efficacy in learners is a critical piece of our work in developing learners who can set goals, acknowledge their growth and seek their next step in learning.

At CPS one of the opportunities for students to develop their self-efficacy is Learning Conversations where students are an important partner.

Thank you for booking into 3 Way Learning Conversations.  Learning Conversations are an opportunity to hear from your child about their individual learning progress.  Part of each student’s learning journey is to understand and articulate learning successes and needs. Your participation in this is critical.

Open communication between teachers and parents is encouraged.  If there are concerns you wish to discuss about your child’s learning, not in the presence of your child, please arrange time to discuss these outside of the Learning Conversations.  Learning Conversations are an opportunity for your child to highlight progress from their point of view.

We look forward to seeing you next week.

Regards

Garry

Harmony Day

This year the Wellbeing Team coordinated Harmony Day with all classes participating in a buddy lunch on the oval. It was a really great opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity within our school and appreciate the inclusive nature of our students.

Harmony Day provides us all with an opportunity to reflect on the importance of living together in a respectful way that celebrates the unique characteristics of each individual and share what we have in common. The day appropriately coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The continuing message of Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and belonging all of which contribute greatly to overall wellbeing.

Most students wore orange which resembles social communication and freedom or they chose to wear cultural dress and provided a gold coin donation.

We are pleased to announce that the day raised $312 which has been donated to UNICEF Australia. UNICEF works in 190 countries and territories to save children's lives, to defend their rights, and to help them fulfil their potential. We are very proud at Crafers Primary to have selected this charity this year and made a donation to assist their work.

Whilst the day has much significance it is always nice to aspire to every day being Harmony Day and celebrate our successes as a culturally diverse community. have a great week.

Buddies Events

In between recess and lunch, all the classes joined up with their buddies from a certain class to take part in the buddy activities. These included an obstacle course created by the house captains, egg and spoon race, a wheel relay where buddies pass the ball to the next person in the line and then run around the other teams with it, a sack race where buddies jumped to one end and back in a sack, a water relay were buddies took water from one bucket to another and a 3 legged race where buddies connected legs and walked as fast as they could.

Tug of War and Relays

A big part of sports day is the relay and tug of war. Junior primary classes (R-2) are up first for the tug of war. Each house goes up against every other house once. In junior primary Decimus won 1/3 tug of wars, Hardy 2/3, Paxlease 0/3 and Wyatt 3/3. After Junior Primary tug of war we had the boys relay with Decimus placing 1st, Hardy 2nd, Wyatt 3rd and Paxlease 4th. Next up was the Middle primary (3-5) tug of war with Decimus winning 3/3 tug of wars, Hardy1/3, Paxlease 0/3 and Wyatt 2/3. After Middle Primary tug of war we had the Girls relay with Hardy placing 1st, Wyatt 2nd, Decimus 3rd and Paxlease 4th. Last of all we had the Upper primary (6-7) with Decimus winning 3/3 tug of wars, Hardy 2/3, Paxlease 0/3 and Wyatt 1/3.

Room 3 Warrawong Reflections

I saw snakes, turtles, lizards, pink parrots, wallabies, squirrel gliders, emus, geese and platypus.

I learnt that emu feathers are much longer and smoother than ducks.

I think next time that we go there we might see some more wallabies.

I wonder if the emus are meat eaters or vegetarians.

Hayley

I learnt that crepuscular means the animals come out late and early.

I wonder if more squirrel gliders will be born and maybe they will eat more.

I think Warrawong is beautiful.

I saw snakes, squirrel gliders, emus, koalas, cockatoos, tortoises and turtles.

Isabella H.

At Warrawong I saw a big snake, emus, turtles and lots more!

I learnt that the red belly snake can go in the water.

I wonder if they will take down the rest of the ruined house.

Amelie

I learnt that one python is orange because it is an albino.

We also saw a ruined old house from 1800, it is very special.

We also saw squirrel gliders that got woken up, so they got honey.

I think I saw a platypus.

I wonder what animals we will see next time.
