Dear Parents/Carers,
Community Day
What a finish to Term 3 with our wonderful Community Day on Wednesday. It was my first Community Day at CVPS, and it was nothing short of amazing. We were extremely lucky with the weather which was suitable for our rides and activities throughout the day – not too hot and not too cold.
A huge thank you to Miss Goodall and her committee for all the organisation involved in the lead-up to Community Day, during and after. Well done to all staff and students involved in preparing and running the stalls, and to our P&C who also ran a stall.
Local businesses from Canley Vale and the surrounding suburbs, donated cash and prizes to go towards raffle prizes and our hire of market stalls. Thank you so much to the local businesses in supporting our school and students. We greatly appreciate your generosity. Please look at our electronic board in front of our school for our list of sponsors and a special page of thanks in this newsletter.
Swimming Lessons
In Term 4 we will be participating in Swimming Lessons. This is an opportunity for our students in Years 2-6 to participate in swimming lessons for 2 weeks (Monday 7 November to Friday 18 November). We have not had this opportunity at Canley Vale since 2019. Our school is lucky to have secured dates in November when the weather is warmer to swim.
This week we have handed out envelopes to students in Years 2-6. The cost for Swimming Lessons is $65 per student. This payment covers travel to and from the pool and pool entry. The school has significantly discounted the total cost for each student as we hope that many families take up this essential opportunity. Part payment is being accepted to secure a place for your child or you can pay the full amount.
Places are filling fast. If you want your child to be part of this essential opportunity please send back the envelope as soon as possible. More information to those students who have claimed a spot for swimming lessons will be sent home next term.
Farewell Mrs McDaniel
Today marks the last day of teaching for Mrs McDaniel. She has been a teacher at Canley Vale Public School for 28 years. Last week we formally said goodbye to her at our Wednesday morning assembly and presented her with a medal from the Department of Education in recognition of her Service to Students. I’m sure Mrs McDaniel will be watching to see what CVPS is up to and I think we may see her come back and visit Community Day next year.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs McDaniel for all her years of service at Canley Vale Public School and congratulate her on her retirement. She will certainly be missed at CVPS.
2023 Kindergarten and Preschool Enrolments
We only have a few places remaining for Preschool enrolments for 2023. Please call the school office to obtain an enrolment form.
Kindergarten Orientation is currently being planned. If you have a child who turns 5 before 31 July 2023 then they are eligible to enrol for kindergarten in 2023. As planning has commenced it would be advisable to complete an enrolment form as soon as possible to ensure families receive information about our upcoming orientation program. Alternatively, families may choose to complete an online enrolment form. Please visit our school website: https://canleyvale-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html
On our website you will also find information around our school enrolment procedures including Out of Area application forms.
Selective High School Applications 2024
Applications are expected to be open online on 18 October 2022 for entry into Year 7 at a Selective High School in 2024. This is just an application process. More details will be given to Year 5 students in Term 4. Further information for parents and carers can be obtained online:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-7/information-for-applicants
The Selective High School Placement Test is expected to be held on 4 May 2023.
Tell Them From Me Survey
The Tell Them From Me survey is currently open for parents and carers to participate. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact student wellbeing and engagement.
The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 10 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The survey can be opened in many languages. The parent survey will close on 4 November. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated. You can access the survey at: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/cvps97241555
