Dear Parents,
The liturgical feast which we celebrate on the last Sunday of the Church’s year we call the Solemnity of Christ the King. As such, this Sunday we celebrate our Parish feast day as well as acknowledging our Golden Jubilee 1970-2022. The COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years unfortunately intervened thus resulting on this milestone being celebrated on the Parish’s fifty second anniversary. The feast of Christ the King ends the church’s liturgical year with the season of the Advent only nine days away as we begin to prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. Luke’s intention in this Sunday’s Gospel was to demonstrate that Jesus was worthy of the title “Christ the King.” St Luke uses Jesus’ own actions to define the real meaning of kingship. To begin with, Jesus demonstrated his moral stature by pardoning the very people who had crucified him and then by offering a place in his kingdom to the thief who had come to recognise his (Jesus’) innocence. Jesus asserted that he would ultimately triumph and be vindicated by stating that he was going to his death bolstered by his unshakeable faith in God’s power to give life. His utterances from the Cross redefined what sovereignty and kingship would look like in God’s world rather than in a world where power, politics and status are king. -JMcD
Tomorrow evening Parishioners will celebrate the Golden Jubilee of our Parish. Our school families are invited to attend the Jubilee mass commencing at 5:30pm celebrated by our Diocesan Bishop Vincent Long. Supper will be served in the hall following mass.
Today our staff and children enjoyed our Feast Day activity sessions and liturgy. Throughout the day the students participated in our CTK Trivia competition, art activities and History. As a community we came together to celebrate our school history, tradition and culture through prayer and song concluding with our liturgy. Thanks to Mrs Wynne for co-ordinating the day and to the teachers for the preparation and organisation.
Last Friday several of senior students accompanied Mrs Wynne and myself in attending the Parramatta Council’s Remembrance day ceremony in Prince Alfred Park. Our CTK students were joined by several schools in the council jurisdiction on the day to remember and acknowledge those who gave their lives for our nation in the many theatres of war over the last hind red years. Thanks to our students who represented our school with such pride and reverence on the day.
Over the last fortnight many of our students represented CTK at a variety of Gala Days organised by the Diocese. Our teams participated in basketball and touch football competitions facilitated by Mrs Kelly-Hosking. Thanks to Lara, the teachers and parents who assisted with transport as well as cheering our children on throughout the day. Thanks to one and all involved. The postponed Oz Tag Gala Day has been rescheduled to the 6th Dec. More details to follow next week.
Our annual Book fair will run all next week. Thanks to Mrs Cook for organising this opportunity for parents and students to purchase books onsite for a short period of time. Many of the titles the children have read throughout the year from our library will be available to purchase as well as a selection of new books and authors that will encourage our young readers to pick up a book and experience the joy of reading for pleasure.
Have a great week
