Mount Ousley Public School News

A small school with big opportunities.

Term 1 Week 5, Wednesday 22 February 2023

Principal's Report

We have certainly hit our stride this week. Students in all classrooms have been very busy with their learning, collaboration and problem solving. When in classrooms, I have seen students working closely together to explain their thinking, particularly in mathematics. It has been an absolute pleasure to be out on the playground enjoying the sunshine with children who are cooperative, kind and who show empathy for others. We have wonderful student leaders and year 6 buddies who are always ready to help others.

In other good news, we have 84% of families connected to the School Bytes platform. This is a wonderful achievement in such a short period of time. Thank you for joining. As of today all permission notes will come home via this platform. You will be able to view them and give permission to attend with the click of a button. The next note coming your way will be the Game Changers Expression of Interest. If you are the parent of a child in year 3 or 4, please keep an eye out for it. All permission notes are visible in the 'Activities' tab. Soon all school notices will also be available on this platform.

I would like to congratulate the elected SRC representatives form each class. I am sure we will have a wonderful year of working together to make our school an even better place to learn, play and work. Our SRC representatives are;

2024 Enrolments

We are now taking enrolments for kindergarten 2024. If you or anyone you know have a child who is turning 5 prior to 31 July 2024, please log onto https://mtousley-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/enrolment.html to complete the online enrolment process. If you would like a school tour and a meet and greet with the Principal please contact our friendly office staff on 4285 4211, to make an appointment.

Families who would like to enrol children in years 1-6 are also welcome to do so. School tours and enrolment meetings form part of this process also.

Parent volunteers

We value your contributions to our school and would like to offer you the opportunity to be in and around our school.

We are seeking parent helpers for reading with students across the school, if you would like to volunteer for this please contact the office.

We are also in desperate need of volunteers for the canteen. Today we have had to close the canteen due to a lack of volunteers. If you know anyone is able to help on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday from 9-12 once a month please contact the office or Mandy Lawler, through the parent Facebook page or via email on amandalawler77@gmail.com.

HUGE OPPORTUNITY!

Our P&C have been offered, and have accepted, the opportunity to cater for the District Cross Country carnival. The carnival will be held on 5 May at a local venue that is to be confirmed. This is a fantastic chance for us to raise much needed funds for our school. The event will see over 700 students participate and many family and friends attend as spectators. The potential to raise thousands of dollars is very high. All we need is YOUR HELP!  We understand that this is a work day, but we are hoping that with notice you will be able to assist us in this very worthwhile venture. To sign up please contact the school office or indicate your interest on the parent Facebook page.

What is the money spent on?

In 2022 the P&C assisted the school by providing funds for;

- Carpeting of the community room and undercover passive play space

- The transport costs for swim scheme

- 50% of The Anxiety Project registration fee ($5000)

- Purchasing of reusable lunch order bags for all kindergarten students

- Set up of the P&C online ordering system for canteen and uniforms

- Canteen equipment

- Year 6 farewell cake

Money raised this year will be earmarked for a new whole school speaker and PA system. This system would see us enjoy clear sound at twilight concerts, year 6 farewells, year 6 clap out, Easter hat parade, ANZAC and Remembrance Day ceremonies, bells and evacuations.

Administration

School Accounts

This year we will be sending out accounts for each family. Included in these will be costs for incursions such as FootSteps Dance. You may not be aware that dance is included in two of our key learning areas, Creative Arts and PDHPD, and is a compulsory part of schooling. Dance helps students to learn coordination, rhythm and to move in a variety of ways. By enlisting the expertise of FootSteps we ensure an extremely high quality program for all students of all abilities. This term we will begin dancing in week 6 of this term.

If any parents think they may have credit on their account, please contact the friendly office staff to utilise the credit.

Permission Notes

All permission notes will now be processed through the School Bytes platform. To access these all you need to do is click on the 'Activities' section and all of the notes for your children will come up there.  This changes will help to streamline our processes and assist us in being more sustainable by reducing the amount of paper we use.

P&C Meeting

We would love to see as many parents as possible join our wonderful P&C. If you are interested in helping our school, connecting with other families and helping with fundraising, we would love to see you at our next meeting! The meeting will be held on Tuesday March 14th at 5:45pm in the library, it will be the AGM. I hope to see you all there.

Year 6-7 Transition

The Year 6-7 transition for 2023 will now be completed online. All parents of students in year 6 will be encouraged to go online and complete the form. The online platform opens on the 6th March and we will attach a link to register your child once it becomes available.

Attendance

Notifications of student absences are now being sent out through School Bytes. You will also receive an email to say your child has an unexplained absence. If you receive one of these emails, please log into school Bytes and respond through the platform with the reason your child was away. This will ensure all absences are explained and are recorded efficiently and accurately. If you believe there is an error with the notice you have received, please let the office know.
