Monday 25 November 2019 Week 7 Term 4

From the Principal

Staff News

Last week we received word that Dr Carl Leonard has achieved a lecturer position at the University of Newcastle and has resigned from his Deputy Principal role here at Eleebana PS. It is with mixed feelings that we say goodbye to  Dr Leonard and thank him for the great work he has done for our school. I am sure you will all join with me in wishing him all the best for his exciting new position and his future endeavours.

Mr May will remain relieving in the Deputy Principal role for the remainder of the year.

Book Week & Grandparents Day

Last Thursday we were amazed and gratified by the response to our combined Book Week and GrandParents Day Assembly.

It was amazing to see the creativity and effort that went into costumes. The parade was full of happy and proud faces. The Book Fair was a highlight, a great selection of books, posters and fun stationery, with wishlist as long as the page in some cases, every student was able to find something special. A huge thank you to Ms Hopper and Ms Gibson for their work to bring this all together. Events like this take enormous effort and we really appreciate the work of our Librarians.

The Grandparents Day Assembly followed the Book Parade and again we saw the talents of our students. Fabulous singing and dancing from our Junior School students and brilliant performances by all the school Bands made this a wonderful event. Thanks go to Ms Phillipa, Ms Wingrove and Ms Wallace, and to all clever Junior School staff for their efforts.

Year Five Leadership Day

Our Year Five students are gearing up for the student leadership opportunities that will be available for them in 2020. The Leadership Day highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the various student leader positions in our school. Focusing on values, teamwork and everyday leadership, our students had fun developing their personal leadership skills.

Our student leadership processes are now underway. Councillor and Captains will be announced at the Presentation day Assembly.

Todd Woodbridge Cup

Last week our Todd Woodbridge Cup tennis players went to Sydney to compete in the State Finals. They played schools from all over the state including Byron Bay, Cowra, Canberra and Gunnedah. Every player played amazingly and we were so successful that we came first in our pool. We played a tough,  talented team from Gunnedah and unfortunately went down. Overall, we came 4th in NSW from an entry pool of 250 schools. A huge achievement. Our students also had the opportunity to meet Todd Woodbridge himself.

Congratulations to Addison R, Sophie B, Lucas S, Kelly R, Nick H, Milani B, Arlie T and Lillian W. Thank you to Mr May and to all our parents who accompanied the team and gave our students such a great opportunity.

Playground Improvements

Work continues to improve our school playgrounds. After our very busy working bee last weekend, this weekend Urban Oasis started their first of three planned jobs. The crushed granite path around the nature play area is now complete and the yarning circle has been beautified with pebbles and sandstone rocks. Over the coming weeks another crushed granite path will be installed from the Glad Gunson gate entrance to the Junior School DOLA. The area next to 5K will also be landscaped and a bike path put in so students can get their bikes around the back of 5K and 4BT.

With our Senior Nature Play area now completed and ready for use we are expecting some very happy students.

CRAZY HAIR DAY - Fundraiser for Hair with Heart, Variety - the Children's Charity .

Our very own Eleebana Public School student, Ivy Pritchard in 1OM, will be raising money by cutting her hair on Monday 16 December at school. Her hair will be donated to - Hair with Heart, Variety - the Children's Charity .

On this day students are invited to come to school with CRAZY HAIR and bring in a gold coin donation to help raise more money for  Hair with Heart, Variety - the Children's Charity. We are very proud and excited to be a part of Ivy’s lovely gesture.

Ivy has made the decision to make a difference by cutting and donating her hair to be made into a wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition. Ivy lost her Poppy this year to cancer and would like to raise money to help others. Wigs cost families up to $6,000, lasting 1-2 years, meaning families can spend tens of thousands of dollars on the purchase of wigs throughout a child’s youth. By making a donation to Variety - the Children's Charity, you can help provide a wig or other vital equipment to a child in need. Thank you for helping kids in need.

Excitingly, approval was granted last week for several giant outdoor play resources - including mega chess, jenga and dominos, as well as the purchasing of establishment items for the introduction of EPS’s own chess club. We are looking forward to these items arriving and being available for use before the end of the year.

QKR! has arrived in the canteen

Great news! QRK! is now live and available for all your canteen purchases. This app has lots of great features that we know families will love, including:

  • Being able to order for multiple children in one transaction
  • No fees incurred for the user
  • No need to hold money in an account- all withdrawals are made directly from a stored credit card.

We will be phasing the old QuickCliq system out at the end of the year – so check out QRK! We know you will love its features and convenience.
