Principal's Report

2023 Staffing Arrangements

Thank you for your patience as we work towards finalising our 2023 staffing plans. While it may appear a straight forward process, there is lots of juggling that takes place to be able to plan staffing arrangements for any given year. We have some members of staff that have been on leave for some time and we need to wait for their leave arrangements to be finalised before offering our temporary teachers work for 2023. We hope to announce our teachers matched to a class in the next few weeks, but please expect some teacher movement next year compared to this year.

We will be having a transition day where students will be able to meet their new teacher and spend some time in the classroom they will be in for 2023 on Wednesday 7th December. I know for some students (and parents) this can be an anxious time, waiting to find out but I would much prefer to announce teachers and classes when plans are less likely to change. As always, things can and have been changing with our staffing arrangements and I will let you know as soon as I can, the plan for 2023.

2023 Dates and Calendar

Thank you to all of our parents who attended the P&C Meeting last Friday. One of the items discussed was to have dates for 2023 events tentatively set, including school carnivals and special days. We have been working hard with venues to make tentative bookings for next year to give parents as much notice as we can.

There are some events that we must rely on venues, organising schools or the Shoalhaven District Public School Sports Association to release dates. At this stage, we are awaiting two of the Small Schools Carnivals and all three District Carnivals to be set, but we have been working on setting dates for our school carnivals based on previous years dates.

The Skoolbag Calendar already has a number of 2023 dates tentatively booked in. Please check the calendar regularly as we release new 2023 dates!

Carnival Crew!

Mrs Robinson is seeking a 'carnival crew' of parents to help with school carnivals. We have tentatively booked our dates for next year and hope you can add these dates to your diary to help out on the day.

Cross everything that next year we have beautiful weather and we won't need to use our backup dates!

Cross Country - Wednesday 22nd March

(Wednesday 29th March as the back up date)

Students will need to remember to bring either proof of their pool pass or $3.20 each Friday. Don't forget a rash shirt, swimmers, towel, sunscreen and a plastic bag for wet swimmers.

On Thursday 1st December we will be holding a morning tea from 11.15 to 11.40 to thank all of our volunteers who have helped us throughout the year.

Christmas Dress Up Day

We invite everyone to wear their best Christmas outfit, Christmas T-shirt or red and green mufti clothes on Wednesday 14th December. I know Bruce has started to plan his outfit already leading into the festive season! We have some fun Christmas themed activities planned for the day which I am sure everyone will enjoy.

Last Day of Term

On the last day of term, we are organising a fun day of activities for our students at school to celebrate all of their hard work throughout the year. We will conclude our final fun day of the year at Kangaroo Valley pool for a swim and some fun activities. Parents can either pickup their child from the pool at 3pm or normal departure at school from 3.15pm.

Kindergarten 2023 Key Dates

Our first day for Kindergarten students will be Wednesday 1st February, 9.15am - 3.15pm.

Next year, we will have Kindergarten students start the year off a little differently than in the past. Kindergarten students will start school the day after our Years 1-6 students, on Wednesday 1st February.

KVPS Tennis Team - State Semi-Finalists!

Todd Woodbridge Cup State Finals

On Monday the 14th of November the Kangaroo Valley Public School Todd Woodbridge Cup team travelled and competed in the state finals at Sydney Olympic Park in Homebush. The team consisting of Samson Hole, Levi Cox, Isaac Cox, Caleb Winch, Harry Nelson, Elsie Moffat, Colbie Ashcroft, Matilda McLennan & Daisy Little had previously won their regional round at Moss Vale to progress to the big stage!

This year, Tennis NSW ran over 50 different Todd Woodbridge Cup events across the state with over 4000 students participating. Only 24 teams progressed through to the state finals. Kangaroo Valley was the smallest school that made it through to the state finals which is a huge achievement.

The 24 teams were split into 4 groups (6 schools in each group). The winner of each group then progressed to the semi-finals (the top 4).

KVPS played unbelievable tennis to win our group, beating Yass, Kenthurst, Cherrybrook, Tamworth & St Raphaels! After the rounds, they had won 33 sets out of a possible 40. They had made it to the semi-finals - the top 4 of the state!

The kids played their hearts out in the semi-final but they narrowly lost to Wagga, who then went on to win the final.

We are so proud of these kids! They have trained hard for this event for several months. They played smart, showed great skill at the net, demonstrated excellent sportsmanship, encouraged each other, had a thorough knowledge of the rules of the game and they competed hard and fair. And most importantly they enjoyed the experience and had fun!

Congratulations to you all!

A massive thank you must go out to Jan and Mrs Robinson for all their efforts in coaching and managing the team. And a big thank you to our beautiful community who supported & encouraged our team (the KV Tennis Club which gave $450 from the Nigel Lewis Memorial Fund; The Friendly Inn, Valley Outdoors, The Hive, Tracey Coe from One Agency Luxury Living, The Nostalgia Factory, The Post Office, Sweet As, Kangaroo Valley Woodcrafts, Chris Truen and other anonymous donations).

2023 Todd Woodbridge Cup here we come!

P&C Report

A huge thank you to Trevor Dando who has stepped down from the role of P&C Treasurer due to his increased work commitments. It was a big year to take on the Treasurer's role, and the P&C would like to sincerely thank Trevor for all his hard work. The position will be taken over by Trudie Jarnason until the end of the year.

Would you like to be involved in the P&C?  Do you have the skills and enthusiasm to help shape our school and give our kids the best educational experience possible?  You can join the P&C in any capacity including becoming part of the P&C Executive. The P&C Executive (President, Secretary, Treasurer and Vice President) are elected at our Annual General Meeting which has been tentatively set for Friday 24th February and it would be great to see some new faces on board!

Our final P&C Meeting for this year will be held on Friday 9 December. The meeting will start at 8am in the library.

If you can't make the meetings in person, we will try to make the zoom option available to those who would like it!
