Kaya, Parents & Community Members,

Welcome to the second term of our school year. As you will note from the attached planner, this term is an extremely busy one with a significant number of exciting events, including our winters sports program for our senior students.

This term we also celebrate our Cultural Awareness Program (CAP) where classes will recognise and learn about our local Indigenous culture. This will culminate in a special CAP Celebration on the final day of the term. Look out for more details closer to the event.

ANZAC Service

Thanks to Miss Cole and our Student Councillors for a wonderful ANZAC Service yesterday. Our student leaders, choir and all other children participated in the service with due respect. Special mention to Elliot S. (pictured) who was up at 4.00am on ANZAC Day to attend the dawn service in Kings Park with her father.

Harmony Day

The whole school celebrated Harmony Day on the last day of Term 1.  On this day, all staff and students were encouraged to wear orange.  Students had a “buddy lunch” in Boola Djen (many feet) with music piped through the speakers for the duration of their lunch break.

House Swimming Carnival

On Friday, March 31st, the year 4's, 5's and 6's had their swimming carnival in the outdoor pool at Craigie Leisure Centre.  We were lucky with the the weather and the pool was warm when you were in it, but when you hopped out it was freezing!  In fourth place was Kwila with 268 points, in third place was Maali with 276 points, in second place was Kaarda with 291 points and first place was Yonga with 313 points.

It was great fun as it is never about winning.  Well done to everyone who got a ribbon.  I hope everyone who attended the swimming carnival had a great time too.

Edu Dance

EDU DANCE was a huge success this year. All PP to Year 6 classes danced their hearts out. Thanks to our awesome Edu dance teachers.

Pre-Primary Busy Bee

On Saturday the 1st of April, Pre-Primary held a Busy Bee to expand and improve their outside learning and play area.  The weather was perfect and with the 11 parents that came to help, we were lucky enough to get all the jobs done.  These jobs consisted of a new woodchip area that is now home to our car, that was donated by the P&C two years ago, new paint jobs, chalkboard, clearing and fixing of our sensory path, and finally sand and woodchip top up.

The Pre-Primary staff and children couldn’t be more thankful to those who came along to help on the day.  The children absolutely love the new areas, and we look forward to it lasting for future Pre-Primary groups.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

Past Student Achievement

Luke G has been selected for the U12 cricket State Schoolboys team so he's off to Darwin in June!

He had a great season, winning the North-West Metro Champion Player award for U13's (playing up a year).  He was the leading run scorer with his century and six fifties.  Luke is also the Champion Fielder for North-West Metro, Champion Player for Sorrento Duncraig Junior Cricket Club for all age groups and leading fielder.  He bowled very well this year, notching up another hat-trick.  Scarborough Districts selected him to play up in the under 13's in the last two games of the season and he top scored in both games.

An incredible accomplishment Luke!
