Yesterday, the World Of Maths roadshow arrived at our school. The Kindergarten, Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 students attended yesterday and feedback from the students has been positive. Today, Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6 will attend.
There are seventeen large, colourful displays in each session, with corresponding worksheets for the students, and an eight page booklet for the teachers, with answers and follow-on information. Students will have the time and freedom to pursue their own paths in trying to solve the problems which encourage them to think. The students can experience mathematics related to practical and real-life situations.
World of Maths helps to develop skills necessary for students to work in small groups as an effective way of learning mathematics, while allowing them to interact with each other to boost their confidence.
For our space enthusiasts – the International Space Station is visible in the evening sky over Canberra from Wednesday 26 June through to Wednesday 10 July. More information at spotthestation.nasa.gov
This week we will be awarding the last of this term’s PBL certificates to students this Friday at morning lines rather than next Monday.
Just a reminder to all parents that learning begins at 9am. Students arriving after this time are missing the beginning of the day which is an important time for re-connecting, finding out what is happening that day and settling into the learning. We know it is hard to get out of bed on these cold mornings, however please ensure your child is at school and ready to learn before 9am.
Finally a timely reminder, please check lost property this week as there are many items of clothing and food items in it.
