Term 1 - Week 2

Welcome to 2020

It has been a fantastic start to the 2020 school year and our students have all started to settle into their new classes so well.  We were so impressed with the seamless transition our newest students made into kindergarten this week and there are still smiles all-round.  It has been lovely also to welcome many new families into other grades also.

This term will be a productive one as we set routines and expectations together.  Please feel free to introduce yourself to your child’s class teacher as they will be keen to work with you in partnership to ensure that educational, social and emotional goals are met.

Meet the Teachers

Each year we organise a session where parents have the opportunity to meet the teachers and hear about plans for the year.  These will be held in weeks 3 and 4 (commencing next week).  The times for these sessions will be as follows…

Swimming Carnival

Yesterday we held our annual Swimming Carnival at Sans Souci Pool.  We had such a beautiful day and our students all got involved so enthusiastically.  I would like to thank Mrs Smith for her wonderful organisation as well as the staff and parents who all pitched in to make sure the day was a success.

P & C Meeting - 17 February

Our first P&C meeting for the year will be held on Monday 17 February at 7.00pm in the staffroom.  This is a great opportunity for parents to become involved in decision making and future planning for the school.  The meetings are never too long and everyone is welcome to attend.     

Dogs in School

While we welcome all members of your ‘family’ into our school, unfortunately family members of the 4-legged variety (dogs) are not permitted into the school grounds without the prior approval of the principal.  This is important as it ensures the safety and wellbeing of all of our students – some who experience anxiety or allergies around animals for example.  If you do like to walk your dog to school, please arrange to meet your child/ren outside the school gate.

Positive Behaviour for Learning

This term are continuing the roll-out of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) project with a special 2020 launch assembly tomorrow (Friday) morning.  PBL is an evidence based program that has proven most successful in schools right across the world and we are already seeing positive impact and consistency at Woolooware as a result. 

Our awards system will continue in the same way as introduced in 2019.  All students will commence the year on the same level and will have the opportunity to achieve Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum level certificates.  To achieve rewards, students will need to consistently demonstrate focus behaviours that are taught and communicated and reflect our school values.

Our key school values have been combined into three:

  • Safe

  • Respectful
  • Learners

We will be teaching and communicating what a ‘Safe, Respectful Learner’ looks and acts like in all situations at school.

We trust you will notice a continued positive impact of these changes.
