Our students greatly enjoyed their tour of the national capital and learnt a great deal during their visit. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.
Last week our students from Years 3-6 travelled to Canberra for their 2019 camp. It was a jam-packed adventure where we visited the National Museum of Australia, Parliament House, the War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Electoral Commission in Old Parliament House and Questacon - all in one overnight trip. We even found time to play in a park at Goulburn and relax with a bit of Netflix at our accommodation! We were all pretty tired by the end of it, but we had a fantastic time away.
At each venue we visited our students were always complimented by staff for how quiet, respectful and polite they were, and I would absolutely agree. Thank you all students for your wonderful behaviour and thank you to our staff and grandparent helper who made this camp so successful (especially Miss Cooper, who got the last minute invite).
We have a video and some photos of our trip away for you to enjoy below.
