Term 4 Week 7

Camp: Our Nation's Capital

Last week our students from Years 3-6 travelled to Canberra for their 2019 camp. It was a jam-packed adventure where we visited the National Museum of Australia, Parliament House, the War Memorial, the Australian Institute of Sport, the Electoral Commission in Old Parliament House and Questacon - all in one overnight trip. We even found time to play in a park at Goulburn and relax with a bit of Netflix at our accommodation! We were all pretty tired by the end of it, but we had a fantastic time away.

At each venue we visited our students were always complimented by staff for how quiet, respectful and polite they were, and I would absolutely agree. Thank you all students for your wonderful behaviour and thank you to our staff and grandparent helper who made this camp so successful (especially Miss Cooper, who got the last minute invite).

We have a video and some photos of our trip away for you to enjoy below.

Australian Government Contribution to Canberra Visit Costs

Our students greatly enjoyed their tour of the national capital and learnt a great deal during their visit. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Year 5 Leadership Day - Jump Off!

Last Tuesday our Year 5 leaders organised our Jump Off Day. This included working in groups to organise a skipping activity for their rotation, splitting the school up into four even groups, creating social media and poster advertisements, creating a runsheet for our teachers and then teaching groups of students skipping skills. The Year 5 leaders were extremely prepared for their task and are to be proud of the positive way they interacted with the students of Terara.

Our Year 5 leaders will now be busily preparing their Captains Speeches that will be delivered on Friday, Week 8.

Jump Rope For Heart - Prizes

We have officially completed our Jump Rope for Heart this year and raised $6406, which is significantly more than the $4000 we set out to raise. All fundraising prizes have been delivered to students who raised enough money to earn them. Thanks again for all your support.

Parachute Writing Stimulus

We are very fortunate to have such passionate and creative staff at our school. Early this morning, Mrs Wilson sneakily set up this elaborate writing stimulus to get our students to use their imagination to write creatively. It's safe to say that our students thoroughly enjoyed writing about their theories as to why a mysterious parachute was stuck in one of our trees. Here is what Mrs Wilson had to say about it:

Students were left scratching their heads as they arrived at school today to an unusual sight. Witnessing a parachute and suspicious box hanging from a school tree, it created quite the crowd on the school oval.  The area was cordoned off with caution tape as students investigated and devised theories as to how it got there and if the objects around it could help in determining what had occurred. Some student’s theories were elaborate and creative, others were more sceptical that the sight was staged by teachers! Regardless, today’s writing lessons in class were full of exciting and engaged student stories.

Bravehearts Education Program

Today we saw Ditto's Adventure Show. He taught us about yes and no feelings. Ditto showed us how to run and tell someone when we have a bad feeling. We also learned two of Ditto's songs. - Ally, 1/2G

Bring Your Own Device Notes For Year 4

Last week notes went home to Year 4 students about how our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program will be continuing next year so students can participate in 21st Century learning experiences. If you have any questions about this program or need any advice on purchasing devices please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak to Mr Watt.

Online Safety Guide For Parents

With technology and online trends constantly changing, we know how hard it is to keep up with what is happening for children and teens online. The Australian Government's eSafety website has an excellent guide for parents to help you keep your kids safe, and we highly recommend you take a look to get the latest and most reliable advice. The link below will take you straight to the parents tab.
