This week is National Science Week! As part of Science Week, we will be having an incursion from Science Space in Wollongong to run some Science shows and STEM challenge this Friday 19th August. A STEM Challenge involves Science, Technology, Engineering and Math to problem solve in a hands-on and open-ended way.

Our 3-6 Students will be watching a Liquid Nitrogen Show followed by a STEM Challenge and our K-2 students will watch a Bubbleology Show followed by a STEM Challenge.

The P&C have agreed to fund the cost of the day and we look forward to the visit.

Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction

The panel met last week and we will hold interviews this Thursday, announcing the successful candidate in Week 6. We look forward to a dedicated position to lead changes to teaching and learning across the school, particularly with the introduction of a new Syllabus for K-2 starting in Term 1, 2023.

Teaching and Learning Survey

Before we commence our journey of change in terms of Teaching and learning, I encourage parents to provide feedback about Teaching and Learning at our school to inform future directions.

Working Bee

Our final Working Bee before the 150th Celebrations is on this Saturday 20th August. We are hoping to complete many small jobs that would really help tidy up the overall appearance of the school and have a big impact on our outdoor spaces. We would love any help from parents, grandparents or community members who might be able to lend a hand for just an hour or two. Please bring along gardening tools, gloves etc. I will organise morning/afternoon tea and bacon and egg rolls for anyone coming along throughout the day to help out.

You can contact Brad Hawthorne if you have any questions about the day 0433 668 343. I really appreciate your support with helping our school look it's best again!

Kangaroo Valley Folk Festival

Each year Kangaroo Valley Public School have the opportunity to perform at the Folk Festival (15 October). This year Miss Jarvis and Mrs Gripper are supporting students to perform songs we have been learning at school. We will be learning songs to perform as a whole school, as well as a song from the KV Songbirds (School Choir). After these performances, we would like to showcase the musical talents of our students who wish to participate. These students should register their interest with Miss Jarvis and begin practising. Miss Jarvis and Mrs Gripper will hold auditions in Week 7 (Tuesday 30th August) to select students who are dedicated to showcasing their musical talents.

Garden Club

Thank you Laura Nelson, Lisa Mumm and Jennifer Williams who have volunteered to help out with getting our vegetable garden up and running again! We have started a gardening group with student, parent and community participation on Mondays 1.20-2pm and Fridays from 1.20pm - 3pm to allow students to join in during the lunch break as well as continue into the play based learning session if they wish. If you would like to help out, please come along.

Thank you Scots College

I would like to thank Stewart Chappelow, Billy Hayes and the students of Scots College who visited our school last Wednesday to complete some work around the school. The boys worked extremely hard and were able to tidy up areas of our school by raking leaves around the tennis/basketball court as well as working on our compost for the Vegetable Garden. We really appreciate the support from he students and staff at the Glengarry Campus.

P&C Report

150th...150th...150th....150th.....

The 150th is shaping up to be a really special event. This week, we have finalised all the details and now have a confirmed schedule for the day (see details in newsletter). Join us for a bbq, sweet treats, coffee, old school memorabilia, face painting/temporary tattoos, cute calves, old fashioned games and a chance to catch up with friends past and present.

Are you coming to the 150th? Head over to the event page on FB and let us know you will be there https://fb.me/e/3uu31qRyj, it will really help us get a good idea of numbers on the day.

If you are an ex-student or know people who are, please tell them about the event. Getting word out there to alumni would be great!

FInally, we are still seeking a few more volunteers for the BBQ, even if it's just an hour, any help is gratefully received!
