Husky Star Newsletter Week 10 Term 3 2020

From the School Leadership Team

Good News! We have received news that in Term 4 some COVID restrictions will start to be relaxed in our school environment. Although there will still be some conditions, we are excited at the thought of being able to have Kindergarten Orientation, camp, excursions and some senior graduation events for our students. At this point, parents are still unable to come onto the school site for assemblies and pick-up/drop-off. However, we do have further advice scheduled to be released on 5 October, so we will advise you during the school holidays if there are any additional changes.

Thank you to everyone for your diligence in fighting the COVID-19 battle, we are certainly starting to see the rewards! Next term, we will still have our hand sanitiser at the school gate for children to use on their way in as well as continue with our additional cleaning services throughout the day. The message we're promoting for hand washing and hygiene will also continue to play a prominent feature in all classrooms.

What also remains in Term 4 are the guidelines for student attendance. Students should be at school unless:

  • they have a medical certificate which states they are unable to return to school due to an ongoing medical condition and the expected timeframe
  • they are currently unwell.

Parents and carers are reminded not to send children to school if they are unwell, even with mild flu-like symptoms.

Any student who has been unwell or has mild flu-like symptoms is encouraged to arrange for testing through their local GP or COVID-19 clinic.

Before returning, students who have been sick will need to provide either:

  • a copy of the negative COVID-19 test and be symptom free
  • a medical certificate if the flu-like symptoms relate to seasonal allergies or another condition.

If these documents cannot be provided, students will not be permitted to return to school for a 10 day period.

Further information for parents has been updated as of 24/9/2020 and can be accessed through the link below:

With all the ups and downs of 2020, if there are any concerns or queries, please just give us a call. We are happy to help and understand that there can be some confusion with some of the changes coming through. Give us a call, we can find out any answer for you!

And, to end on a high note, can we send congratulations to all the students, families and staff for a very successful term. We looked at the calendar, it said we had 50 school days this term - even if it has felt at least twice that long! It has been great to end our term in a day of colour! Have a look at our gallery - it is sure to put a smile on your dial too!!

Year 5 Leadership Program

The Year 5 students who are interested in being a school leader for 2021 will participate in a leadership program next term. The interested students have been given a Leadership Application to fill out and return by Friday Week 1 next term. Students will  be involved in a variety of activities to help then  become aware of a  leadership skills and responsibilities.

Gymnastics Program

All students will be involved in an 8 week gymnastics program next term. Each class will get a forty minute lesson starting on Friday week one. The cost of the program is been covered by the school and Sporting Schools Grant.  This year two coaches will come to our school with a variety of equipment and the lessons will  be held on the netball courts. The lessons will cover the gymnastic outcomes for each class. I am sure the students will have a great time.

School Camp

Today there will be a link to a survey in our newsletter, where we ask parents of our senior students to indicate if they will be able to commit to their child going to camp in Term 4. We are keen for a quick response, so that we can further explore the possibility of our children going to camp. It will ask about the likelihood of parents and families being able to meet the financial commitment of camp.

Thank you Mr Vidler for your exceptional organisation of our COVID Athletics Carnival

Athletics Carnival

This week our students finished their field events and took part in the track events for the 2020 Athletics Carnival. It was a beautiful day and our students were able to attend the oval in stage groups to take part in the running events. Our teachers reported such a high level of enthusiasm from our students and their efforts were reflected in the high participation levels.

Library News

Play Day in the Library!

Play Day in the library took on a different meaning this week.  At first the Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students thought they were coming in for a play, but little did they know they were walking straight onto a stage AND they were the star performers!  Beautiful butterflies, lovely lady beetles, buzzing bees, wiggly worms and fantastic flowers supported Kate, the main character, on her discovery of why worms are so good for our environment. Each class acted out a reading of the clever environmental poem, Kate and the Professors, while learning about the elements of drama.  Well done to all involved, you are a class act!

Term 4 - Heads Up!

It has been a fantastically busy term in the library and I am looking forward to the exciting lessons and events for next term.  Don't forget that our annual Book Fair will be held from Monday 30th November to Thursday 3rd December. The parade of characters will be held on Wednesday 2nd December and it is not too early to start thinking about a costume.  More information will come about the format for these events.  In the meantime, have a great school break...please read and don't forget to locate and return those long overdue books at the start of the term. Chasing overdues is my least favourite job in the library...a good spring clean will help find them! Enjoy your break. Mrs Hanson
