Dear Parents/Carers,
Athletics Carnival
It was very disappointing that we were unable to go ahead with our planned Athletics Carnival this week. This was out of our control as the bus company cancelled our buses at the last moment. We were then unable to secure enough buses to transport our students to Makepeace Oval at short notice. A new date has been set for 24 August 2022 and a note will go home for parents to sign to grant permission for your child to attend on this date. Money will not be required as we have already received payments from students.
COVID cases
We continue to receive information from families about positive COVID cases in our community. I thank all our families for diligently informing our office or class teachers when a positive case of COVID has been diagnosed.
Please keep your children home from school and continue to test using RAT kits or PCR tests if your child has symptoms. Our staff are also testing and staying home if they have symptoms. We are all in this together, keeping each other safe.
If you have used all your RAT kits for your children, if they have been close contacts, and you require more, please contact the school office. All students in our older classes have now received their allocation, after we received our delivery of more RAT kits last week. We still have a small supply that we are happy to distribute to our families if they need them.
2023 Enrolments
This week the Enrolment Panels have met to discuss enrolments for 2023 at Canley Vale Public School. Letters will soon be sent to parents and carers of children who have applied for placement in our preschool and kindergarten classes for next year.
We are continuing to take enrolment applications for 2023 for both Preschool and Kindergarten. If you know of any families with children ready to start Preschool and/or Kindergarten next year please let them know to make contact with our school office or alternatively they can apply online.
Parent Volunteers
I am looking for some parent volunteers to hep me deliver flyers about 2023 enrolments for Preschool and Kindergarten. If you are available on Friday morning to help deliver flyers into mailboxes in our local area please meet at the front office at 9am. We will walk around the streets surrounding our school to do some letter drops. We should be finished by 10am at the latest.
PBL – Student of the Month
At our Education Week assembly last week, we acknowledged the Student of the Month awardees from each class. Each awardee received the badge for Empathy, which was our learning disposition focus for July. For August, the learning disposition is Curiosity. The students who received their Empathy badge have today participated in a morning tea with the Senior Executive.
Year 6 – PDHPE Unit - Exploring Change
This term Year 6 students have started the PDHPE unit, “Exploring Change”. Year 6 are exploring factors that influence identity and behaviour. They investigate strategies to manage the changes associated with puberty and seek help. Students practice skills to establish and maintain caring and respectful relationships. They discuss protective and inclusive actions to support their own and others health, safety and wellbeing. Students explore the influence of emotional response and relationships.
Teachers strictly follow the NSW K-6 curriculum for all schools with the content taught and discussed in this unit. All students participate in these lessons. If you would like to know more about this unit please contact your child’s class teacher.
Education Week
Thank you to all parents and carers who were able to come along last Thursday for our Education Week assembly and also view some student work in our school hall. A video was also made of the hall displays and posted on Facebook.
Our Kindergarten students and staff had a wonderful day last Monday as they celebrated 100 days of learning for Kindergarten. Our students are definitely 100 days smarter and they showed us how clever they were with their special activities in the classroom. It was wonderful to see so many students and staff dressed up as 100-year-old people too.
Community Day
The Community Day Committee are hard at work getting ready for our Community Day on Wednesday 21 September. Raffle prizes have been sourced, each grade is organising their stalls, rides and activities have been booked and our Canley Cash is being prepared. Keep an eye out for special flyers informing us of all the activities we can expect for our special day. Our last Community Day was back in 2019 so I am definitely looking forward to experiencing my first Canley Vale Community Day.
Swimming Scheme
In Term 4 we will be participating in Swimming Scheme. This is an opportunity for our students in Years 2-6 to participate in swimming lessons for 2 weeks (Monday 7 November to Friday 18 November). We have not had this opportunity at Canley Vale since 2019. Our school is lucky to have secured dates in November. The school will reduce the cost to enable as many students as possible to participate. The lessons are free, however, each participant will need to pay for bus travel and pool entry. The school will subsidise this cost. An Expression of Interest will go home soon so students can secure a place. The dates do overlap with our Year 5 excursion to Canberra but we have come up with a plan so that Year 5 do not miss out on the chance to participate in Swimming Scheme. Further details will be provided soon.
P&C Meeting
Our next P&C meeting will be held in our school hall on Wednesday 17 August at 9am. We would love to see some new faces there. Our CLOs will be at the meeting to assist with language and we will provide morning tea. One of the topics on the agenda will be school photos for 2023.
Electric Scooters
Just a reminder to our parents and carers who ride eScooters or eBikes to school to drop-off and pick-up students each day that these transport modes MUST NOT be ridden on school grounds. Please get off the bike or scooter before coming through the school gates and park the bike or scooter either behind the buildings at the Pevensey Street entrance or near the flagpoles at the Canley Vale Rd entrance. Do not push them through the school. Students should wait to get on these vehicles once they are outside the school gates of an afternoon. Parents and carers controlling these transport vehicles should also be mindful of pedestrians at all times on the footpaths, as they have right of way. All riders and passengers should be wearing helmets.
Parents in Staff Car Park
The staff car park is only for staff at Canley Vale Public School. Outside of school hours (before 8:30am and after 4pm) parents and carers of students attending OOSH are allowed to drive into the carpark and park near the school hall to drop off and pick up their children. Drivers MUST always drive below 10km/h. Drivers failing to follow these rules will not be allowed to enter the school grounds with their vehicle. Please ensure you follow the rules for the safety of all our community members.
Kind regards,
Margaret Creagh
