Kangaroo Valley Public School Newsletter Term 3 Week 4, 9 August 2022

Principal's Report

Thank you for helping us celebrate Education Week. It was so special to be able to have our classrooms open and share with you the wonderful work of our students. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we enjoyed sharing it with you! The positive feedback was humbling and I hope to provide details of the return of our fortnightly assemblies very soon.

A special thank you to Mrs Gripper for organising such a successful Book Fair. There is a lot of behind the scenes work that goes into making the Book Fair happen. The selection of books was fantastic and it certainly catered for our students reading interests. I would also like to thank Miss Jarvis and the KV songbirds for their amazing work and dedication to the school choir who performed extremely well on the day. We look forward to your next performance.

Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction

The advertised permanent position for an Assistant Principal Curriculum and Instruction at Kangaroo Valley Public School has now closed. The panel will meet this week and we hope to hold interviews in Week 5, announcing the successful candidate in Week 6. We look forward to a dedicated position to lead changes to teaching and learning across the school, particularly with the introduction of a new Syllabus for K-2 starting in Term 1, 2023.

Working Bee

We hope to have one more Working Bee on Saturday 20th August in the lead up to the 150th to get the school ready for the big day. After a walk around the school last week, there are lots of small jobs that would really help tidy up the overall appearance of the school and have a big impact. We would love any help from parents, grandparents or community members who might be able to lend a hand for a 2 hour block. Please bring along gardening tools, gloves etc. I will organise morning/afternoon tea and bacon and egg rolls for anyone coming along throughout the day to help out.

You can contact Brad Hawthorne if you have any questions about the day or if you can help out please reply to this post or contact Brad 0433 668 343. I really appreciate your support with helping our school look it's best again!

District Athletics Carnival

We wish all of our students attending the District Athletics Carnival this Wednesday all the best. We know you will represent the school well with good sportsmanship and hope you enjoy competing. Thank you for your patience with all the changes of date and venue.

We are so close to the 150th Celebration (3rd Sept) and all the elements are starting to come together. We still need a few volunteers to help us on the day, specifically to help crew the BBQ. Laura Nelson is running the BBQ, so please get in touch with Laura or Trudie if you can help. The celebration runs from 10am to 1:30pm and we are looking for volunteers to help across that time.

An enormous thank you to all those who have volunteered their time so far, it is truly appreciated. A big thank you also to the those who have 'Sponsored a stall' or donated to the celebration (I hope I haven't missed anyone);

Cubs and Scouts

1st Kangaroo Valley cubs and scouts has been a presence in our community for several decades. The group went into hiatus during COVID-19 restrictions from March 2020. Prior to this the group had up to one third of all KV Public School kids involved in the weekly activities. We are looking for adults that might be interested in seeing the group start up again in 2022 or 2023.

Nicholas Carlile (all three of his kids went through KVPS 2009- 2017) is the designated Group Leader since 2014. Any adults interested in getting the prerequisite training to run scouting activities are well supported by the scouting movement. This involves on-line training and attendance at a couple of weekend events to qualify. As Group Leader, Nicholas is fully qualified to assist in re-starting of the group and providing support for activities.

If you have kids interested in getting into scouting (cubs 8-11 years and scouts 12-15 years) and have an interest in joining them on that journey, then this is your opportunity. Contact Nicholas on 0419 909707 or 444 60591.
