Dudley Public School Newsletter

Term 1 Week 10

Principal’s Message

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We have had another wonderful week at Dudley Public School. It was so nice to be able to invite the community back into our hall for assemblies. They are a very important part of our school, and it was wonderful to see all the smiling faces from not just the adults, but all the students as well. It just goes to show what resilience we are building in our students as it was a very long assembly, but all students, especially Kindergarten handled themselves so well. It was also a pleasure to see all students understand the importance of the awards they were receiving as this is part of our new awards system. The Collaboration award is part of the 6 Dispositions we are embedding across the school. We want our students to be Collaborative, Self- Motivated, Curious, Persevere, and be Creative and Reflective learners. We use this language across the school and all students from K-6 understand what is needed to develop these learning dispositions. The goal for all our students will be to collect a certificate for each disposition, which can be brought into the office to be stamped and receive a special award as recognition for collecting all dispositions.

Week 11

We have a very busy week ahead in Week 11. Not only are we having our whole school Cross Country, but there is also Easter Scripture on Wednesday afternoon, Easter Hat Parade, Easter Raffle and open classrooms on Thursday. Unfortunately, I won’t be at school on Thursday as I am at Hunter Rugby League selection trials, which was postponed from the 17 March. I know everyone will have a wonderful day and I look forward to seeing all the extravagant hats in the photos from the event.

Hunter AFL

Well Done to Lucas MB for gaining selection to the Hunter PSSA AFL team who will play in Coffs Harbour from the 25-27 May. This is a wonderful achievement, and we wish Lucas all the best and hope he has a great time away making news friends and improving his skill in AFL.

Open Classrooms!

On Thursday 7th April, parents and carers are invited into classrooms to see what's been happening so far this year. Students are so excited to show off all their hard work throughout the term, and we are so excited to be able to open our school, once again.

Classrooms will be open from 12pm - 12.45pm, following which, you are invited to stay for a picnic lunch with your child/children. Unfortunately, we will not be offering food options from our canteen on the day, but please pack a picnic, bring a rug and find a spot anywhere on our playground. Fingers crossed the weather will be kind to us!

Please also stay for our K-2 Easter Hat parade starting at 1.30pm, our stage 1 dance performance, and the announcement of the winners in the P&C Easter Raffle. It's sure to be a great day at Dudley!

Easter Hat Parade 2022

Following open classrooms on Thursday 7th April, we would like to invite you to our Easter Hat Parade and stage 1 dance performance. All students in classes KF, KH, 1M, 1F, 2M and 2S will parade their Easter hats that will be made in school. There is no need for students to make anything at home as all supplies will be provided by the school.

This parade will be followed by the drawing of the Easter Raffle run by our fabulous P&C.

Easter Hat Parade Start Time: 1.30pm

Where: School Hall

This will be followed by our stage 1 dance performance and P&C Easter Raffle. We are so eggcited!!!

Harmony Day and National Ride2School Day 2022

Last Friday, the whole school celebrated Harmony Day and National Ride2School Day. It was so lovely to see the sea of orange that was our students, along with the mass of bikes arriving through the gates. We asked families for a gold coin donation and raised over $350 towards helping support victims of the floods in both NSW and QLD.

In classes, students made scratch art designs that we will use to make a Harmony Day display, and they painted rocks for our 'Kindness Rock Garden' that is currently under construction by Mrs P.

What a great day it was to recognise and celebrate the vibrant, muti-cultural country we are lucky enough to call home.

Remembering Charlie Carr!

Two weeks ago, we took a day at school to remember our beautiful past student Charlie Carr. To celebrate Charlie, we asked students to dress in pink (Charlie's favourite colour) and to bring in a gold coin donation. As a school we raised over $400 for Charlie's charity and, as always, our DPS students did us proud with the 'pink' dress-up theme. Great job Dudley - Charlie will never be forgotten.

K-2 PJ Day!

To celebrate a successful term of home reading, K-2 are having a pj day next Wednesday! Those students who have recorded 25 nights of home reading in their yellow reading logs will receive a small reward! (Enclosed shoes to be worn with PJs!)

ANZAC Service

Our Dudley Public School ANZAC Assembly will be held on Wednesday 27th April at 10.15am. This is the first day back for students in Term 2. Our assembly will be run by our school captains and SRC and attended by some special visitors. Parents, grandparents, and friends are welcome to attend.

Lest we forget.

Home Reading

With Term 1 almost complete, all students are to be congratulated on their home reading efforts thus far. It has been wonderful to see so many enthusiastic readers, from Kindergarten through to Year 6! Home reading logs are filling up fast, with many students now reaching 25+ nights of home reading.

School holidays are a wonderful opportunity to continue, or catch up on, home reading practice. Research continues to show that shared reading experiences are highly beneficial for young people. Benefits of shared reading include fostering the development of listening skills, spelling, reading comprehension and vocabulary.

As always, thank you for your support of our home reading program. We look forward to continued enthusiasm in Term 2!

Sustainability

It has been wonderful to see so many enthusiastic helpers join us for Garden Club over the last two weeks! Held every Wednesday at lunchtime, the aim of our Garden Club is to improve the school grounds by weeding, tidying, and establishing new vegetation. Thanks to our fabulous volunteers, we now have new shrubs that have been planted along our Ocean Street fence line!

In our aim to reduce, reuse and recycle where possible, we have recently established a pen and marker recycling program at school. Each classroom now has a container for collecting used pens, highlighters and markers which will then be dropped off to our local Officeworks store for recycling. We were amazed at just how many whiteboard markers were simply being thrown away after use. As a school, we are excited to implement this new initiative!

Finally, our wonderful P&C Sustainability Sub-Committee has organised a School Garden Working Bee on Sunday 24th April 2022 (last weekend of the school holidays). If you are keen to make a difference and contribute to our school community, we would love to see you! Please see attached flyer for more information.
