Term 4 Weeks 5 and 6

Principal’s Message

Having a growth mindset.

We encourage our students to take risks with their learning, but what does that really mean?

All of the best learning happens when you make mistakes. Allowing students to try things that are hard where they make mistakes allows them to reflect on how they could do things differently. While it is hard to stand back and see children struggle, stepping in too early takes away their opportunity to develop grit and determination to find a solution. This is important in all aspects of life not just the classroom.

Learning new things is uncomfortable, it makes you feel unsure. Supporting students to recognise this and support them to develop the skills to move forward will help them develop a mindset that taking risks is ok and we won't always get it right!

P&C News

SCHOOL SUSTAINABILITY - Thanks to all who journeyed into the future for our 2040 School & Community Film Night last Friday – the overall message emphasising the power we have to shape our bodies, our lives and our planet.  It’s easy to feel ‘ecoanxiety’ when we look around us, but Damon Gameau’s award-winning film shows us there is much to be optimistic about and that by bringing the best solutions available into our everyday lives we can make a big difference.

The night was hosted by presenters Hugh and Tom, Evie and Lily (ticket sales), Evan, Jesse, Bernie, Rex, Arlo and Nadav had an array of tempting goodies on offer and James and Jude were the technical crew keeping everything running smoothly. What a team!  – a huge credit to our community and we are very grateful for their help.

Congratulations to Robyn Simpson and Lucy Rees for initiating and coordinating a very special and fun evening, including Robyn’s fantastic introductory film featuring some famous faces and messages supporting Dudley’s recycling and environmental initiatives that are already up and running.

Special thanks to the Dudley Sustainability Group for partnering with us for the event and donating seedling trees to each family. You can get involved with the DSG and keep up to date on their activities by joining the Welcome to Dudley facebook page.

The P&C has donated the 2040 movie, the book and teaching materials to the school for ongoing use and we hope this will be the first of many film nights and sustainability events to come.

CAROLS NIGHT TUESDAY 10 DECEMBER 5.45pm- Just 3 weeks until our school’s much-loved Carols Night held in the playground at twilight.  This year the canteen is creating its delicious sushi for families to pre-order and we will also have icey-poles, popcorn, home-made lemonade and Christmas goodies on offer. We’ll be calling for donations of festive baked goods like gingerbread, shortbread, cookies etc and please email us if you can help out in any way on the night. There’ll be fantastic raffle prizes and some enviro-friendly Christmas craft to enjoy. More info to come.
