A huge thank you to our coaches Mr Chand, Mr Ly and Mrs Avero for taking time each week to train and take the teams. Our students are very lucky to have dedicated teachers who give of their time generously to provide opportunities for our students to participate in many activities, including PSSA sport.
Concert
On Wednesday and Thursday last week our students had their school concert at Cabra-Vale Diggers. The students performed over two days and nights. Everyone had a great time showcasing their dancing, singing and musical prowess. A big thank you to: the teachers for all their hard work with their students; the students for making us proud with their excellent conduct at the venue and for their wonderful performances; to the parents and families for attending to watch their children; and thank you to Cabra-Vale Diggers for providing the venue and the light and sound for us.
I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Plimmer and the Concert Committee who worked tirelessly to put the concert together and ensure your children had the opportunity to perform in front of their friends and families. The venue was a sell-out both nights and I am sure if we had a third night we would have been packed to the rafters once again.
Thank you to all our parents, carers and family members for showing your support through your attendance at the concert, organising costumes and getting your children to the venue on time.
Transition and High School Orientation
This week our Year 6 students attended their High School Orientation Day. I’m sure our Year 6 students were nervous and excited, experiencing their new school for 2023. While our Year 6 students were visiting their new environments our students in Kindergarten to Year 5 had a ‘transition’ session too.
All students progressed to the next grade for the morning session. Our Kindergarten students went with Year 1 teachers into Year 1 classrooms to find out what happens in Year 1. Year 5 students went with Year 6 teachers and found out what the final year of primary school has in store for them. Year 1 went to Year 2 classrooms, Year 4 (our biggest group of students) went with the Year 5 teachers, Year 2 went to Year 3 classrooms and heard all about PSSA and they may have even discussed NAPLAN. Our Year 3 students also ventured to the next grade level with the Year 4 teachers.
While it was only a short period of time it gave the opportunity for the students to ask some questions of what next year will be like and participate in an activity that their teacher next year will see. Your children did not go with their 2023 teacher for this session. This was just a practise of what they might experience next year.
Don’t Come to School Too Early
While we want all our students to be at school ready to start the day, we do not want students attending school before 8:30am. It has also been brought to our attention that some parents are dropping their children early at school (before 8:30am) and then driving off leaving them at the school gate. Some of our older students have then been walking to the shops. Parents, we ask that you supervise your children walking through the school gates, making sure they are on school property and in the care of our staff, remembering that our staff are on duty from 8:30am. Please talk with your children about safety and being in the right place at the right time.
Presentation Assemblies and Graduations
Next week we will hold all our Annual Presentation Assemblies. Parents and carers have been notified if their child will be receiving a special award or acknowledgement and have been invited to attend the assemblies, which will be held in the school hall. All our parents and carers are welcome to attend. We do, however, request that if you are unwell that you do not attend these assemblies.
Stage 3 (Years 5&6) presentation assembly will be held on Tuesday 6 December at 9:00am. Stage 2 (Years 3&4) presentation assembly will also be held on Tuesday 6 December, but it will be at 11:30am. Stage 1 (Years 1&2) presentation assembly will be held on Wednesday 7 December at 9:00am and Kindergarten will have theirs at 11:30am on the same day.
Year 6 will have their Graduation Assembly on Thursday 8 December at 9:00am and all parents and carers of Year 6 students are welcome to attend. The Year 6 Farewell will be held at Cabra-Vale Diggers that same evening from 5pm. The Year 6 teachers have sent home specific information regarding our Year 6 events over the next few weeks.
Preschool graduations will be held in Week 10. Preschool Green Birds and Yellow Tigers will have their graduation on Monday 12 December and Preschool Blueberries and Red Poppies will be on Friday 16 December.
Some Staff Leaving at the End of 2022
At the end of each school year, we inevidently say farewell to some staff members who may be retiring or moving to a new school. This year we will be saying farewell to Mrs Jeudi Son, our Khmer CLO. Mrs Son has been at CVPS since 1996, more than 25 years. She is retiring from the Department of Education, but I am sure she will be back to visit on Community Day. We wish you all the very best Mrs Son on your retirement.
We also say farewell to Mrs Marzena Wrzos, one of our EALD teachers. Mrs Wrzsos has been at Canley Vale Public School since 2007 and will be transferring to Epping Public School at the start of 2023. Her new school is closer to her home so there will be less travelling for her. We are very sad to see Mrs Wrzos leave and on behalf of the staff, students and community I wish Mrs Wrzos all the very best at her new school.
Gold Picnic Day
All students, K-6, with gold level certificates for behaviour will attend a special excursion to Aquatopia on Tuesday 13 December. Specific information around this special excursion has been sent home last week. Permission notes need to be returned a soon as possible to all class teachers.
Semester 2 Reports
School reports will be sent home with students next Friday 9 December. If a student is not at school on this day the teacher will hold it until they return. If students are not attending school after 9th December parents are asked to call the school office or send an email to arrange an alternate date for collection.
Last day of 2022
Our end of 2022 school year is fast approaching. Our students will finish on Friday 16 December 2022 but our staff will continue the following week, participating in professional learning. The office will remain open on Monday 19 December 2022 for any enquiries.
If families are finishing school early, before Friday 16 December, they need to inform the class teacher and the school office with a letter. You can also complete the Early Leaver/ Late Return letter which is included in this newsletter. If your family is not returning to CVPS in 2023 please let the school office know ASAP so we are able to follow up and send information to your new school.
Kind regards,
Margaret Creagh
Principal
