Term 1, Week 8

Principal's Report

Our students in Years 3 and 5 began NAPLAN (National Assessment of Literacy and Numeracy) this week. This is a series of four assessments in Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. For the first time these assessments are being held in Term 1 rather than Term 2. Teachers and parents will be able to see the strengths of the students in literacy and numeracy and identify areas of focus for future learning. Students in Year 3 will complete the Reading, Conventions of Language, and Numeracy assessments online using school laptop devices. The Writing assessment for Year 3 is pen and paper based. All Year 5 assessments are completed on devices.

On Tuesday 21 March Goulburn Public School will celebrate Harmony Day. On this day we encourage students to wear orange as the colour representing diversity and inclusion, or to wear clothing of cultural significance. I look forward to seeing the vibrant colours on Tuesday!

Parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 12 must ensure their children attend school every day. On occasion, your child may need to be absent from school.

Parents must provide an explanation for absences to the school within 7 days from the first day of any period of absence. Where an explanation has not been received within the 7-day timeframe, the school will record the absence as unjustified on the student's record. As part of school protocol you will be contacted by a staff member after two days of absence without explanation.

Library Book Borrowing

Library borrowing has commenced. To borrow books from the Library all students need a library bag. This is important to keep library books safe while travelling to and from school and from Lunch box mishaps. An recyclable shopping bag or pillowcase are some great options. Please make sure your child's name is clearly labelled on their library bag.

Stewart House Donation Drive 2023

Every year 1,600 public school children attend our safe haven next to Curl Curl beach at no cost to their parents or carers. During a 12-day stay, they are provided with dental, optical, hearing and medical screening and treatment.

Children participate in educational programs and excursions designed to develop their social and emotional skills, build self-esteem and improve their overall wellbeing.

This experience provides children with a much-needed break from their current circumstance. Our children are inspired to see beyond the present and to have real hope and positive aspirations for their future.

Children in the care of Stewart House attend a specific purpose school onsite for 10 days of their 12-day stay. The NSW Department of Education provides infrastructure and staffing support for this school.

All other costs associated with the children’s stay are met from charitable donations.

Stewart House envelopes have been sent home. Thank you if you have already retuned you envelope. If you wish to donate to Stewart House, please return envelopes with your name and phone number and $2 donation back to school by Friday 12 May 2023.

All donations will enter a draw to win a $4000 gift voucher.

HEADLICE

Unfortunately we have had confirmed cases of head lice at our school. Could you please check your child’s hair and make sure you treat your their hair appropriately before returning them to school. Further information on head lice is available on the NSW Health website or through the Department's website:

Joke Of The Week!

From The Office

Administering Prescription Medication

When a medical practitioner has prescribed medication that must be administered during the school day, parents/carers must:

  • notify the school
  • provide up to date information as required
  • supply the medication and any 'consumables' necessary for its administration in a timely way.
  • Must be supplied in a blister/webster pack or original packaging with a prescription label attached.
  • Parents/carers of children who require prescribed medication to be

administered at school must complete a written request document.

Students must not carry medications and medications are to be delivered to the office by parents/carers or the chemists.

Non-prescribed medications

Schools generally don’t administer medication that hasn’t been requested for an individual student’s specific condition. In some cases the medical practitioner may not write a prescription for such medication because it may be available 'over the counter'. NSW Health advises that ‘over the counter’ medication may still be harmful and that schools should follow the same procedures for non-prescribed medications as for prescribed medications.

For further information, please contact the school office.

Update Your Details

Have you moved house? Do you have a new phone number or email address?

Please contact the school office to update any details that may have changed.

Visitor Check In

All parents/carers and visitors who enter the school grounds must check in at the front office. Please report to the office directly after entering the school gates and you will be issued with a visitors sticker to wear for the duration of your visit.  This is for the safety of all students and staff members.

If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact the office and a time can be arranged for you.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Online Payments

There has been a bit of confusion when paying for certain events/activities/uniforms online.

The school events and activities are separate to the P&C run uniform shop.

If you are purchasing uniforms – this is to be paid to the P&C account – their details are on their price lists.

All other payments to the school for excursions/activities/sports etc are to be paid to the school account which the link is found on our school website.

https://goulburn-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/

then go to: MAKE A PAYMENT

There has been lots of mixed payments and it is making it difficult to reconcile accounts.  If you are unsure at all, please call the office on 48212827, and we can confirm for you.

We do not want any student to miss out on any activity due to payment not being received.
